But in the broader terms of a national election, I'm sure that the Republican antipathy towards anything with the name Clinton was much more influential in 2016 than its general ambivalence towards Biden will be in 2020.
Not really. Biden is seen as Clinton 2.0.
Quote:Never Trumpers in 2016 made tepid statements of disapproval as pundits on cable news. Never Trumpers in 2020 have well-funded political action committees buying up ad time in battleground states. And, again, they don't have to do very much. They just have to shave a few moderate Republicans off the base to swing the election Biden's way.
And how well funded was the Clinton campaign compared to Trump's and look what happened there...
Quote:Well, that's the hope isn't it? Law & Order is the simple-message platform that the Trump campaign has gone all-in with.
Trouble is that this whole "cities aflame" chaos theory isn't really landing outside the base. Survey after survey shows that people's interpretation of urban unrest is entirely dependent on their political persuasion. It is not a unifying idea. The Breitbart minority might agree that cities have been set on fire by "far left fascists" (?!?), but there are more people who think that the protests have been mostly peaceful and mostly justified, blaming any violence on a combination of 'bad apple' actors and heavy-handed policing.
More people voted for Clinton than Trump in 2016. Numerical advantage isn't everything. 'Political persuasion' will mean little when businesses move away and the entire reputations of cities and states are destroyed because state and city authorities are too cowardly to act. Burning cities provide powerful images in the age 24/7 television and social media. Moreso than jobs moving to China.
Quote:The suburban voters that Trump needs to persuade are not scared of brick-throwing protesters or antifa boogeymen. They are scared of an airborne virus that has taken more lives on Trump's watch than the Vietnam, Korean and Iraq wars combined.
Burning businesses are a much more visceral problem than airborne viruses. The virus won't be a problem in 12 to 18 months time when the vaccinations are initiated. And they're not 'scared' of these antifa ratbags, they're angered by them. When they notice the cops standing by, that's enough to make a business owning voter incensed.

And something worth noting by Trumpists who keep spitting venom about Clinton's dastardly NAFTA:

In fact, NAFTA was conceived and initiated under Reagan (as the FTA), renegotiated under HW Bush, and only ratified by Clinton in his first year in office. It was Republican policy through and through, from a time when Republicans were anti-protectionist, free trade evangelists and the most hawkish of deficit hawks. To say nothing of their belief in traditional family values bordering on the puritanical.
Today's Republican party has drifted an ocean away from Nixon, Reagan and Bush. It is now just the Trump party in all its greedy, mendacious, malevolent glory -- a sinister and self-serving cult of personality that doesn't care a jot about 'the working man'.
Parties can lean left and right and voters can have differing policy views within the broad left/right paradigm, shock horror. You're not revealing anything new. Everyone knows communist Corbyn's Labour was radically different from neoliberal Blair. Likewise the Republicans have a broad voter base that range from libertarians who the first two amendments more than anything to evangelicals (Reagan and Bush era Republicans) to America First nationalists. It says something about the working man that they voted in a celebrity billionaire that suggests on some whim. They saw someone that talked and thought just like them, namely freely. And the politically correct elites in the liberal media are still butthurt of his success lol.

I'm not a religious person or anything but if God existed, I think Trump would be his right hand man on Earth. Mr God would ensure his survival to resume his fight against the anti-human left wing fascists (yeah, left wing fascists for those who seem to be bothered by my correct labelling, cry more) in America.

Was he asked about the Proud Boys? The debate feels like a long time ago already to me. Let's face it though, antifa is a million times worse than the Proud Boys given what they unleashed with their BLM partners in crime across the summer.
