OMG a real shock. We have lost a TRUE Musical legend
Eddie was perhaps always one of the guitarists who was always consistently in the top 10 guitar heroes, and perhaps to some people was THE most complete player.
The VH albums were created with love and labour and were brilliant. Their debut was my introduction to rock music and they had brilliant hits. "Jump" was perhaps the crossover hit that really grew VH's appeal and enhanced Eddies playing reputation & paved the way for him to play on Michael Jackson's "Beat it" He was innovative and creative.
I think he even had sought lessons from Glen Campbell. (reputedly)
His death at 65 is way too young, but he made guitar playing a cool thing growing up in the 80's and had fought throat cancer for last few years.
The super group in heaven has gained a truly remarkable talent & hope Jimi was waiting for him. We will miss seeing him burn up that fret board and sense of fun onstage and that smile!!
Thank you Eddie for the music of VH & the blistering solos, you were the master Rock music won't be the same without you onstage. Condolences to all in the Halen family & the band and to Sammy Hagar & Michael Anthony. Particularly Sammy as many of us had always hoped they would bury their differences and be back together one last time. We probably will not see his like onstage again.

Eddie didn't just reinvent the guitar textbook - he blew it apart.
If he looked up to Eric Clapton & Jimi Hendrix I would think he can be mentioned in one breath, in that same stature of Jimi.

Watching back some of his performances/interviews over the last few days since his passing, it is just incredible now just how innovative he was.
His style of playing has pretty become part of music folklore and probably is his biggest legacy. on a music level, it is there, it is there in the VH albums, in the live performances, but how humble he was when interviewed. He did it all very much from scratch being self taught
and that I think probably many people will say, is what sets him apart from other guitar heroes. What I didn't know was that he couldn't read music!! But his playing style, ushered in the tablature

Will we ever see VH onstage again? I would like to think so if there is way for it to happen, but I think it's very likely that we won't, not with Eddie not being there onstage and that body of work will be timeless for many years after we all take our leave. Probably 20 Years from now, I think people will still be thanking EVH for inspiring their music styles.
