He was very gracious and wished us all well and the best of luck. There was a very heartfelt and amiable "may the best man win" tenor to the whole thing.

He expressed regret about some of the things he said in this thread. And while he was still hoping for a Trump victory, he acknowledged that Biden would make a fine president. The most important thing, he said, is that every vote is counted, the result respected, and the eventual winner congratulated.

It was really quite tender and poetic.

Trump has clearly won the election by a massive majority but as expected the democrats are fixing the results.

You can be sure that if/when Trump loses, the Transition won't be a repeat of when Bush Junior left the Whitehouse. Obama praised both the outgoing President and his transition team for their courtesy and Professionalism.

The Clinton's on the other hand were accused of removing thousands of dollars worth of gifts from foreign governments and engaging in childish shit like removing the letter W from keyboards and glueing desk drawers shut.

I expect Trump will probably take a shit on the Resolute Desk.

It's not a done deal yet of course and the Houses are still being contested too.

I've just read that the Democrats control the House Of Representatives but the Republicans are ahead in the Senate.
To really govern presumably you want both plus the White House.

Presumably the first thing Biden has got to do in January is sell a national lockdown. The Americans, (unlike everybody else?) haven't done that at all yet so it'll need all the governance they can muster to make it happen.

Whatever happens it all sounds like it'll be a rough ride for all of them.

I think the Democrats have the House pretty much locked down.

The Senate is looking unlikely for them, but still near enough to a 50/50 to make governing difficult but possible.

Electioneering bravado aside, Biden is a centrist and a former Senator who is liked and respected by many Republican Senators. He is not as divisive as Trump was or as Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren would have been.

So not winning the Senate could be a blessing in disguise. It would allow Biden to keep the progressive wing of his own party at bay, saying "I know you want to ban fracking outright and pass the Green New Deal, but I'll never get it through the Senate, so you'll have to compromise."

It could be a return to the calm, humdrum politics of old.
