Our first Merseyside derby loss at Anfield finally came against Everton. Given our form, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Where I congratulate them, I also always have the back of my mind, it's taken them 21 seasons to do that. In this time, I have seen us lift 15 trophies so last night doesn't bother me so much all things considered with 'bragging rights'. I still rate Ancelotti as a manager as well.
What Liverpool are going through are a series of problems, forget the injuries, the transfers and the all the other problems that have occured this season. I think the most fundamental problem is we haven't fully celebrated our inaugural PL title. Yeah the boys had fun, most drank and celebrated but we've not been able to celebrate properly with the teams the way fans should. Thanks a lot COVID!
When we won the Champions League in 2019, it felt like a spiritual hex was lifted. Having the fans watching the team's celebration bus go by with the Big Ears. The energy they gained from the parade was regained after years of not winning a trophy. It egged them onto win 3 more including the Premier League and this is the problem. It feels like an even bigger spiritual hex was lifted after not winning a league title for 30 fricking years. This is clearly a bigger deal. More energy was taken from the team than last year and they would have needed more than they got in 2019 but this nonsense didn't even allow for that. We should have been celebrating together and even bigger than we did on 2019 but COVID screwed it up for us. Let's face it.
Is it any wonder our team are not moving with the same energy they did last season? Is it any wonder Anfield has probably lost as many games between Klopp's arrival and April 2017 against Crystal Palace? Is it any wonder people think we're predictable now? Is it any wonder the media are talking about Liverpool and Anfield in this light now? Every pundit knows that this is the problem deep down whether they will say it on TV or not? Yes the fans not being at Anfield is an issue too and that's more proof of my point.
I think the team should salvage what they can and do the best they can knowing we can comfortably write the season off after what we've been through. We can talk about Man City doing well this season but they don't move with the same energy. So let's retreat, rally behind our team and endure the storm. We have highs. We have lows and as the saying goes ' YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE'
