I was beginning to think that England were playing a 2nd eleven in this match.

I notice that there are a few injuries, but where are Bairstow and Buttler.
And regarding the keeper position, what was wrong in using Ollie Pope. He's an experienced keeper.

The one plus of this team is Ollie Robinson, but he's going to get cut for the next test after racist tweets have come to light.

^^ there is nothing that racist or sexist in those tweets they are 7 years old from when he was a young lad trying to be funny with his mates , the thinking seams to be he wasn't a full time pro when he made them but just on the ground staff so the most they can give him is a fine, it's all a bit of a non story ,

I agree with Winsaw. If they fine him for those rscist remarks from 7 years ago, it's the least they can give him or it would be a blow to his confidence if those remarks get him anything more serious than that, and really the social media sites & press should know better than to drag something up from the past. let it go and give him the benefit of the doubt.

ECB suspends Ollie Robinson - that is a bit harsh...Probably many expected something but he should have been given benefit of the doubt, those tweets are over 7 - 8 years old and teenagers all make mistakes at one time or another and he has apologised for it.
ECB should accept his apology and move on.

Oliver Dowden has criticized the ECB, saying that the punishment is over the top. Boris has supported his comments.
I don't really know the details, of these tweets, but the ECB had nowhere to go on this issue, when all the England players (Robinson included) lined up before the start of the Test wearing T-shirts which denounced various forms of discrimination. The sad part for me is that this is not the first case of this. Joe Clarke, Tom Kohler-Cadmore most recently. No doubt if you dig deep enough you'll fine it's pretty common among people of their age. Maybe they think it's funny, & just showing off, but it's harmful & has to stop. I don't like generalizations, but many top Sportmen, Footballers etc. have had to put in a lot of time to get the the levels they've reached, maybe at the expense of education. Somethings got to give, & let's face it, they're not the brightest bunch.

^^ In other news, Dom Bess, has been added to the squad for the 2nd Test, (don't worry Winsaw, I know he's crap, he wont play) brought in as covid cover for Jack Leech, who has a strong chance of playing.
