Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it?

According to the Office for National Statistics, Covid infections have now dropped by 15% from the week before This was data till the 16th April.
One in seventeen people have presently got covid.

Hospitalisations have also dropped by 2,000 cases in a week.

70% of the population have now had the Omicron.

It could be that we reaching herd immunity for this variant of covid.

But you know that there will be a new variant around the corner.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation's experts are saying that an extra jab of the vaccine would help maintain protection over the winter.

It recommends jabs for:

Over 65s, Care home residents and staff, Frontline health and social care workers, People over 16 in vulnerable groups

Within the next couple of days, Spain are removing the need to be vaccinated before your enter.

New figures out show a rise in infections plus 2 new sub variants of Omicron

See NZ have new cases rising, I am pretty sure they have never really got out of a lockdown have they?

Back in the UK for first time since before COVID hit, and have been catching up on what's been happening.

There's a facebook page for the Lane that Flick used to live in, and going back to before the Pandemic struck, one resident wrote "There's worrying news about what appears to be a Coronavirus, proably of animal origin, coming from China. It looks quite serious, and appears to be causing a great number of fatalities - hope the government act to stop the sopread before it gets here."
Then just before lockdown "What is wrong with the Government? The virus is spreading throughout the continent, but they still allow major international sporting events to occur in the UK without placing controls on who is allowed to come"
Later on, after lockdown first introduced, and when the "soap and gel panic buy was infull swing "As some of you know I used to work with David Tyrell, the guy who discovered Coronaviruses, back when it was just another Common Cold virus. At that time we used to use Milton solution which is still readily available, and is just as effective"
Then when the talk about vaccines really started "My real concern about vaccines was that when we looked at the immune responses to coronavirus, hey only lasted about 6 months or so, which is why re-infections were common. Also like most viruses it will probably mutate, and like most biological entites the successful variants will be those that can spread most efficiently without causing the hosts to be killed off. This will probably mean that for the forseeable future we will need constant re-vaccinations against the newest variants - just like flu vaccines."

Now this guy isn't a medical doctor, but is a retired microbiologist. He probably talked more sense than all the "experts" the various governments got together - and definitely more sense than the then US administration.

Omicron has been with us for quite a while.
The experts believe that Omicron could now be the last major variant.

This will mean that to vacinate the population against it will be a lot simpler.

I have had both my covid booster and my seasonal flu jab at once and I now feel absolutely exhausted
