HELP

ok so i'm in a bit of a dilema here and im in need of opinions. i keep getting a message saying i will need a new sky card soon but i found out this will cost me 20 quid. for 20 quid i can get a freeview box will all the same channels. except the babe channels.

so basically i just want to know how many there are on freeview and how good are they. who are the girls etc

I think we'll need more info than this, mdevil. Why will it cost you £20? If you subscribe to $ky, then they should replace it for free.

And in any case, you don't need a $ky card/subscription to receive the babe channels, if that's your only concen.

I think we'll need more info than this, mdevil. Why will it cost you £20? If you subscribe to $ky, then they should replace it for free.

And in any case, you don't need a $ky card/subscription to receive the babe channels, if that's your only concen.

i used to subscribe to sky but have only had the free channels for the last 2 years and as i got my card and box before 2006 i have to pay and at some point this month i will lose some channels. this is what i have been told by the sky website

Well I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think you'll lose the babeshows.

im hoping not cos im thinking ill get a freeview anyway as ill then get virgin1, dave and SSN etc which arent available on free sky

I have heard elsewhere of people getting channels thrown in that I would have to pay £££ for, because of old promotions.

Try to pin them down - which channels or package will you loose ? If it's Culture I'd say fuck it, it's only crap cookery and travel programs.

Why not try just pulling the Sky card, then see what channels you loose. Keep the card pulled for at least 24 hours. It should take a few minutes to detect no valid card, but sometimes these things take longer.

Right...so you haven't had a sky card for 2 years and now, out of the blue, you're getting messages telling you that you need a new one?

What kind of messages and from who?

If you have a DVB-S receiver, (which you have) then you can get all the FTA channels on any satellite your dish is pointed at. If you're pointing at the Astra 2 cluster (which you are) you'll get all the FTA babe channels (which you do).

I fail to see any changes on the horizon that will effect that situation.

Test it. Pull your old sky card out of the box. If you lose all your channels then you prolly do have to pay for a new card, but i'd doubt it.

I think it's because sky have upgraded all their cards recently. You don't have an account, but you do have an old card that they could have reactivated if you started up with them again. From now on, if you want to start up with them again, you'll need a new card, and you'll prolly have to pay £20 'admin' fee or something for it.

I reckon they're just blagging you that you need a card, but not telling you why.

well i basically just get 1-5, the other itv's and bbc's, E4, five usa etc, film 4 and some other crappy film channels like zone, about 6 music channels and the babe channels.

just checked and i lose * ITV1 (if you receive one of the following ITV1 regions: ITV Anglia West, ITV Central South West, ITV Meridian North, ITV Meridian South East, ITV Tyne Tees South or ITV Yorkshire East)
* FIVE (if you live in London, the North of England or Scotland)
* FIVE USA, FIVE USA +1, FIVER, FIVER +1
* Channel 4 HD
* Sky 3
so it looks like ill get a freeview box but keep my sky box for the babe shows

Sounds like you have freesat from sky which sky bring out new cards every three years. Freesat from sky you will have to pay a one off fee of 20 pounds for the three years until a new card is out then you will have to pay another 20 quid. If you take out the Card you will only Lose the channels that are FTV on the EPG an no babe channels as there FTA an not FTV.

well i'm not gonna pay £20 for a piece of plastic when i can get a freeview box for the same price and have virgin1 to watch TNA instead of having to watch it downstairs and dave for endless repeats of top gear and dragons den
