Macron has banned the right to protest in Paris. So because of this the students have joined the support of the people to protest.
The workers aren't happy because Macron wants to raise the age that pension is paid. From 62 to 64.
And they are also unhappy that he's forcing through the changes without it being voted on.

The people could be digging out the guillotine as they chanted: “We beheaded Louis XVI and we can do it again with Macron

On the one hand i have some sympathy with the French, you feel like in this day & age governments, particulalrly in the wealthiest countries, should be investing in skills & education, creating a high skilled, high wage workforce, increasing tax revenues to pay for increasing health & social security needs with low skilled, low wage jobs being taken up by robotics/automation, allowing people to retire at a good age & not work til they drop.

On the other hand given the French's nature to strike for anything & comparing their pension age to peer nations I also find myself saying "Fuck sake Frenchie get back to work"

These reforms and protest strike at the heart of one of the biggest issues facing rich nations. The fact of the matter is with low birth rates and people living longer, Global North countries need to find a way to pay for social security & healthcare. If extending the period of employment isn't satisfactory then you have two options: raise taxes or mass immigration. Two things that voters really hate.
