Rishi Sunak - and his miserly Government

Rishi Sunak is trying to present himself as an agent of change, does he think that we are buttoned up the back.

HS2 is not seen as a worthy bargaining chip by Sunak to bribe the voters from Midlands northwards in the way Brexit was by Johnson. It is mostly a political calculation and partly a financial one too.

Ultimately it boils down to one key question from a Tory point of view.
Why spend vast amounts of money on the North when the Tories have no bargaining chips to bribe Northern voters with anymore and therefore are unlikely to get many votes out of them?

It's pure politics plain and simple.

Sunak will no doubt come out with a load of compensatory transport link policy announcements and then sweep those away at the last minute too.

But, the Tories have cut local transport services to the bone already over the last 13 years. For example, as I understand half of the bus routes in England have been cut in the last 13 years. A last minute bribe is hardly going to be convincing to people in Northern England.

The point I was making is that the North always suffers disproportionately in both transport link policy as well as raft of other issues because there are not many votes to be gained from it from a Tory point of view.
Last minute bribes are normal for desperate governments. Sweeties offered just before an election and then withdrawn afterwards.

At his conference speech, Sunak says if you want change, vote Conservative.

Is that the same Conservative party who have fucked things up for the last 13 years.
