With the initial group games completed & the Super Eight stage set to begin today, it seems like a good time to reflect on the tournament to date. As expected, India were the dominate force in Group A, in as much as was possible on some difficult batting tracks at times. Pakistan were deservedly beaten by USA in a game that shouldn't have even gone to a Super Over. Not really much of a surprise that Pakistan have again showed their inconsistencies, brilliant one day, average the next, but I would've expected Ireland to have been a side to have profited from this, but they were also off the mark.
Group B was as expected, although England had a battle to qualify. Scotland showed some real fighting spirit in all matches & almost caused the biggest upset in a narrow defeat to Australia.
In Group C the West Indies look a coherent unit for once, Darren Sammy as coach has got them playing as a team, in the same manner that he did as a captain. New Zealand were off the pace & unable to recover from an early heavy defeat by Afghanistan who have looked good until West Indies overpowered them.
Group D looked the weakest, with South Africa having little trouble until a near miss against Nepal which saved them some embarrassment. Bangladesh have punched their weight with the win over Sri Lanka a key clash. Whilst both sides lost to a strong South Africa unit, it was the contrasting manner of the defeats that highlights the direction these respecting teams are travelling in.

The pace of the tournament seems to ramp up from a jog to a sprint. England face West Indies on Thursday 01.30 BST at the Darren Sammy Stadium St Lucia, which is a Night Match, & will have just 38 hours break before they take on South Africa (FRI 15.30 BST) at the same venue, before they travel to Barbados to face the USA on Sunday 15.30 BST.
England wont have the excuse of being tired after only one of their 4 Group B matches providing a full 40 overs of action, the other 3 totalled 46.3 overs.
