Anyone else find it ironic that in the land of "freedom and democracy" they keep trying to kill their democratically elected officials?

A further irony is all the talking heads suggesting that Trump created all this polarisation with his “extremist rhetoric” without acknowledging that 8 years of calling him a Russian-backed threat to democracy is, in fact, “extremist rhetoric”.

The nut probably thought he was defending democracy.

Doesn't matter who the politician is such actions are absolutely wrong. The Republican politicians who overnight were blaming Biden are also despicable and guilty of inciting further violence with their rhetoric. Sadly I doubt this awful assassination attempt will do anything to change peoples minds on the lunacy of the 2nd Amendment

including Donald Trump Jr & JD Vance who is apparently the favourite to be Trump's running mate/Vice President pick.

I too doubt this will change anything in regards to guns in the us

From Politico, Biden reportedly told donors: “I have one job, and that’s to beat Donald Trump. I’m absolutely certain I’m the best person to be able to do that. So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.”

I mean let's think of the context of that quote for a minute. It was to donors, not to a crowd of people at a rally, so claiming it's him calling for Trump to be assasinated is clutching at straws, he was obviously saying it was time to focus on beating Trump and not his terrible debate performance, as per the full quote.
Context is key, Biden has never called for violence against Trump, so claiming otherwise is nonsense.

American politics and it's divisive nature is at fault here, both sides are as guilty as the other for not defusing tension, their gun laws, or lack therof are also at fault.
