The Turkish girl was out on her feet, she feigned injury to get a minutes breather, and then played her challenge card to get another breather at the end of the 3rd round.

RE: Paris Olympiad 2024
have to say 63 is a good total of medals would like to have been more gold

would love to know how many near misses 4th and 5th places that showed promise

6th place in medals sound bad but most of the aussies were in the pool France will got the home game bounce and the japanese who knew they were so good at amatuer wrestling

https://olympics.com/en/news/paris-2024-...ners-table

looking at our tallys the gymnastics was disappointing but i think thats cos a lot of the names are nearing retirement and they are rebuilding sailing was a little disappointing to

RE: Paris Olympiad 2024
The medal table system is somewhat misleading because it focuses so much on Gold medals.

Nation X could end up winning 1 gold and no other medals at all.
Meanwhile Nation Y could win 100 silvers and 100 bronzes but no Golds and still finish below Nation X because of the one Gold medal.

GB have won 13 more medals than Australia and 20 more than Japan so far but are below both of them in the medal table.

Maybe use a points system instead. 3 for Gold, 2 for Silver and 1 for Bronze.
That might be fairer.

RE: Paris Olympiad 2024
I was curious about this too, as I’ve seen some media rank countries by medal count, and others by gold medals (then silver if they are tied for golds).

My understanding is that the IOC orders countries by the number of gold medals. To the extent that that is considered the ‘official’ medal table, then Snooks has it right — with all the questionable interpretation and fairness he describes.

BUT since there is no “winner” of the Olympic Games, the IOC is not fussed about how others choose to re-present this information. I.e. it has never challenged or questioned media outlet for ordering countries by medal count.

They once made a statement about this and the substance was: We simply provide the data, and choose to present it in a certain order. If others choose to represent it in order of total medals, by region, or even alphabetically, that’s their prerogative. As long as the actual medal counts are accurate, we aren’t fussed about how they are ordered or presented.

Its always been gold medals basically the Yanks did it when they were losing to china Tongue Tongue and quite rightly got slaughtered for it

you think about it being Olympic Champion ie the Gold Medalist is what matters so quite rightly has more weight to it

RE: Paris Olympiad 2024
I notice this report.
"The International Gymnastics Federation restored Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu to third in the Paris Olympicswomen's floor exercise final Saturday, potentially forcing American gymnast Jordan Chiles to return the bronze she won in the event."

Even the Romanian Prime Minister made complaints about the result and refused to attend today's closing ceremony. He may come now.
