In the evening Luca Brecel continued his dire run of form losing 6-5 to Jak Jones despite leading 5-3 at one stage.

And Michael Holt celebrated his return to the TV stages of the UK Championship with a hugely impressive 6-1 rout of Gary Wilson.

Worse and worse...

Judd Trump recovered from 1-3 down against Neil Robertson by winning five frames in a row for a 6-3 victory. Robertson had a glorious chance to go 4-1 up but fluffed his lines and was duly punished as the Bristolian rattled in breaks of 73, 126 and 67 to turn the tables and reach round two.

In the other afternoon match John Higgins thrashed He Guoqiang 6-0.

Zhang Anda 147 alert.

Zhang Anda completed a 6-3 win over Lei Peifan having trailed 2-0 early on.
Zhang won a crucial third frame he had little right to win before making his maximum and from there it was relative plain sailing.

Mark Williams suffered a deciding frame defeat to Stuart Bingham having led 5-2.
Ballrun looked pretty much out of it but a four frame burst sealed a comeback victory in York.

It's all shaping up to be a dead loss this week. But I'm hopeful someone can cut through the crap for the big win.

Two topsy turvy encounters this afternoon both went to deciding frames in York.

On table one Ding Junhui looked the more fluent early on and opened with a century but it counted for little as frames were exchanged to reach 3-3. Shaun Murphy won a crucial 7th frame before making a superb 135 to go two clear with three to play.
Ding countered with another two barnstorming tons of his own but faltered at the last to allow Murphy to claim a 6-5 victory.

On table two Barry Hawkins started in magnificent style with a 144 total clearance before Dave Gilbert won the next two frames aided by a century of his own.
The Hawk levelled at 2-2 and from there Gilbert kept on edging in front only for his opponent to obtain parity each time. Into the decider then and with bits and pieces contributions it was Barry Hawkins who prevailed to win 6-5.

The two will now face each other in the quarter finals.

All the more disappointing this afternoon as the pendulum did swing ultimately towards crap.

This evening better early doors, but there's plenty of time...

Jack Lisowski has seen off Ali Carter 6-4 with a generally clinical display.

Meanwhile Mark Allen rallied in superb style from 2-4 behind to beat Wu Yize 6-4 finishing with successive breaks of 111, 73, 107 and 80.
