Star Trek: Beyond (2016)

The third film in the reboot series, also known as the alternative timeline series created by events featuring the original crew / films.

The Enterprise is sent on a rescue mission but is ambushed and left stranded on a distant planet. The crew must reunite and find a way to return to their Starbase to stop a vengeful villain from destroying it with a powerful bio-weapon.

Despite a slow start, it becomes an action packed thriller that delivers the set pieces in an entertaining but moderated style, while also paying homage to the original series and subsequent movie offerings.

Chris Pine reprises his role of Kirk, with Zachary Quinto (Spock), Karl Urban (McCoy), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), John Cho (Sulu) and the late Anton Yelchin (Chekov) returning for the ride. Idris Elba gives a great performance as the main villain and Sofia Boutella debuts in a fine supporting role. There's also a nice tribute to original Star Trek legend, the late Leonard Nimoy.

There was reportedly a fourth film still in development featuring the reboot crew. I still look forward to that so that I can banish the awful Section 31 from my memory.

8/10 Smile

The Blu Ray Steel Book is stunning.

Captain America: Brave New World

A very good action packed addition to the MCU which is also a sequel to 2008 MCU film The Incredible Hulk, paying off events from that film and also The Eternals

The special effects are excellent & the action sequences are excellent. The cast are all excellent especially Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez & Tim Blake Nelson

Multiple future MCU films are also set up including Avengers Doomsday & Avengers Secret Wars in a post credit scene

8/10

The Gorge (2025)

This was a pretty decent sci-fi movie imo - there was a romance element to it but I didn't find it too much of a distraction from what was quite a 'popcorn and a couple of beers movie' Big Grin.

Anya Taylor-Joy was ok in this (although she was far better as Furiosa imo). There's quite a lot of effort to pull off a movie with very few characters in a movie imo (Ex_Machina did it perfectly well with the majority being 3 characters for the most part) - here we have just 2 characters predominantly throughout and overall I was quite happy with it overall.

The mystery of The Gorge itself and the first breach of the the wall was a good action scene, bullets flying everywhere and the blossoming romance between the two main actors was ok. Some great special effects, limited action scenes - but when they happen are good, the two main characters were good - overall not bad.

6.5/10

Captain America: Brave New World 4/10 - very disappointing, a lack of excitement or any real tension makes this yet another dull instalment in the marvel universe. No character development, average action sequences and a plot that seems to be stolen from, The sum of all fears. It’s only saving grace would have been Harrison Ford becoming the red hulk but even that was given away in the trailer.

Captain America: Brave New World.

Fairly average. I think Anthony Mackie is better as a supporting Actor than as a lead and Harrison Ford is just too old now. I'll not say any more than that as most people probably haven't seen it yet

I'll be generous and give it 5/10.

Only 3 things in life are certain. Death, Taxes and lesbians will never look how they do in porn movies.

Captain America: Brave New World

Not the worst Marvel film but far from the best. Just routine rather than engaging. Honestly thought the Falcon and Winter Soldier series was better than this. Wished I'd waited for it to come to Disney+ lol

Yeah it's a 5/10
