RIP Joe Haines

Harold Wilson's former Press Aide, Joe Haine's has died aged 97 (a wonderful innings)

Haine's most memorable claim came last year when he claimed Wilson had an affair with his deputy press secretary Janet Hewlwtt-Davies who died in 2023. Haines also had a turbulent affair with Baroness Falkender (who was Marcia Williams at the time).

He was also a political writer in both the The Sun (before acquired by Rupert Murdoch) and The Mirror and tributes have been paid by many including Tony Blair's aide Alastair Campbell and was part of Wilson's Govt in 1970 and 1974. He also close friends with Lord Donoghue.

Condolences to Haine's family

He was the Alistair Campbell of his day, if that's not too much of a back-handed compliment
