6.8 Sure enough, the final was also in London, at the Trinity Buoy Wharf, offering a grandstand view of the ex-Millennium Dome. All three finalists were excellent, and their Kew Gardens-based commissions were even better. Maybe the decision came down to who the judges wanted to see more from, because the surrealist lady won through.
LAotY 2021
6.9 To Snowdonia (not called Eryri once) for the winning commission, with the winning lady obliged to take some rough hill treks to get views and ideas. The finished painting gets the thumbs up, though.

Alan Whicker meets Harold Robbins
A rather forgotten author now, but at this time seemingly one of the world's busiest/wealthiest/most married. He was in his mid-50s, and after a grubby time in New York, he takes Alan to a topless beach in the South of France, as you do on a family holiday. Another to add to the list of "profiles of authors I've never read and likely never will".

The Bottom Line
Steve Clemons talks first to Edward Luce (in the same studio!) about the prospects for a ceasefire in Ukraine, and then by zoom thing to Daniel Levy about the latest state of play with the Gaza ceasefire.

Late Night w/Seth Meyers
He talked to Tom Hanks about some new natural world show he's narrating, then later spoke to Kate Hudson and also John Turturro (who seemed relieved rather than highly stressed).

8 - Manchester United
Humble pie... no, not really. Instead, a seafood boil, the honey butter ring, and celeriac remoulade on beef smorebrod. He was somewhat polite about eccles cakes (probably not a nod to Chris "Man U fan" Eccleston).
AREF
9 - Celtic
No spearmint, but instead Egg Stornoway, Barra scallops and a meatball pizza, with deep fried pizza to finish.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: The Interview
The dubious Emma Barnett talks to some author about her first book in 10 years. Not Emma's, the other lady... not that I'm likely to read either.

19/20 Wendy Barrett returns to talk on Drawing With Paint, using a profile shot of her live sitter, Fred.
20/20 Judge Tai returns to close off the series with a go at How To Attempt A Portrait, with a chattier more humble style than usual.

Overall, a fun series, though if I had to summarise all the masterclasses into one word, it would be layering.
Bloody hell, they've started some more already.
AotY - M
21/40 Gail Davis gets to talk on an Introduction to Life Drawing, which involves a nude lady, Anjie. Whether her art posing was comparable to the babeshows is another matter. Candle wax and charcoal made up part of the picture.
22/40 Amy Dury talked on Mixed Media Portraiture, which leads to a flat picture (not on an easel, that is), using candles, crayons and watery inks.

Britain's Worst Floods - Lynmouth & Boscastle
Haven't seen one of these weather disaster efforts for a while. As the first event happened in 1952 at night, they settled for one survivor and then moved on to the daytime horror in 2004, which was mostly told from survivors and quite a lot of camera footage taken. John Craven and Clare Nasir were the only celebs needed to help pad it out.
