problems getting on xbox live

i have a problem with my 360 it wont let me sign into xbox live.it says i need an update but when i try to download it wont let me.just says test xbox live connection settings.do i need a newer 360 or what any one help tanks

What does it say when you test your settings?

it says a system update is required.when i try to download it all i get is update failed test connection

Download the update off of Xbox.com and put it onto a USB and put it onto your PC or something. I have not heard of what is happening with you and I have had nearly everything wrong with my Live lol.
