If you already have a Sky dish on the property all you do is buy the set top box yourself (around 40.00) and plug it in.

There are no connection costs or cards with Freesat. If you don't have a dish then the total cost of a new dish, installation and box would be around 130.00-150.00.

Freesat itself is just a satellite version of freeview and doesn't have any of the adult channels,as far as I am aware. You need a free-to-air decoder(old Sky box will do) and satellite dish.Freesat comes from a different satellite,I think it is the one Setanta uses. You need to point a dish at Astra 28.2e to get all the non encrypted Sky channels i.e. all the adult freeview stuff. A Sky dish costs about £30 with all the bits from Ebay and there are loads of people selling recon. Sky decoders there,I got a Pace one for our caravan for £20 delivered.If you want channel 4 and Five and some others you need to get a card from Sky for a one off charge of £20 as they have some weird freeview agreement going back years.A non Sky decoder will have a better more sensitive tuning menu but in line meters are available for about £5 too.

cheers for the tips, a helpful community is a healthy community. if i get it i'll probably go with sky's freesat coz i know someone who has it and its basically the channels your left with when sky cuts you off. that includes most freeview channels plus a few more including the babe shows. the only real pain is installation. that will cost coz i live in flats and am not permitted to DIY. anyway, apologies for turning this into a semi tech thread, back to the babestream till i save my coppers up methinks. thanks once again for your info.
