RE: Rapidshare - New Premium User Payment System
Actually, if you upload no more than 10 gigs and download no more than 1 gig a day or 5 in 4 days, your rapids could last months. 2000/4.

You just need to juggle. Otherwise it's the same as it is now - 2000/20

Agreed! Since the original RS announcement, on one of the other forums I visit, there has been a "Which File Host" poll running, on day one everyone was sticking with RS, with the new announcements Hotfile is winning and nearly all the major uploaders, including me, have set-up Hotfile accounts.

Earlier this year I used up a lot of My RapidPoints to extend my account for the max 6 months, now I have just 50,000, which is not enough to convert and extend my account, damn!

My RS account has just under 100Gb stored, it was nearly 500Gb until the 60 day delete rule came in to effect in Jan 2010, I hardly ever download from RS, the new packages just don't work for me, with my current level of storage level my account will use 78 Rapids per day, 20,000 Rapids is 199,00 euros or £165, 20,000/78 = 256 days, £165 for 256 days is outrageous, what the hell are RS thinking?

I will convert my points to Rapids, remote upload my files from RS to Hotfile, delete my files, drop the account to RapidSmall and let my account expire!

Cheers

Think its to try and stop the pirates using to store pirated material but people like us get caught in the middle. i iiked rapidshare because of the rapiduploader program just needed to drag and drop the files in and it did the rest

what are the best ones really need to have a drag and drop interface or be able to configure an uploader peice of software to do it or i might think about quitting the recording and uploading stuff

Just done a quick calculation. It would take me over 96 days at 24 hours per day continuous uploading to upload 500GB at my maximum upload speed.

I only have about 3.5GB stored at rapidshare (78 vids total) with their free account.
Not lost many with the 2 month rule. Vids I posted a year ago are still getting downloaded.

RE: Rapidshare - New Premium User Payment System
Well, this whole mess has me totally confused.

Seems they have me on the medium program, costing me 20 'rapids' per day, and I only have 250 in my account. I have barely 5000 rapidpoints in total, so no joy there. I have just under 30gb of files stored.

I don't really want to drop down a package and have my files deleted, but I am soon going to hit 50gb and go onto the big package at 78 rapids per day cost! No chance.

I think I'll probably buy some more rapids to get me through another month while I decide where to go, then jump ship elsewhere.
Question is where to go. I really want somewhere that does folders, so I can transfer my existing content in an organized way so when my rapidshare links expire, I can point people to the folders where they should be able to easily find the file they want.

Hotfile looks good, but doesn't seem to do folders.
MegaUpload is the most obvious alternative, but I just don't much care for them. Plus they have a 100mb file limit. No use to me.
I know people who do major file-sharing speak highly of netload, but I have no personal experience with them.
I used to like Mediafire, but I have found them a bit hit and miss for downloads recently.

I have access to a netload account, so I will investigate that, see how it looks, try before you buy Smile I will also canvas opinion form buddies on other forums, see what they recommend and why before making my move, but one thing is for sure, I really don't like this nonsense from rapidshare, it doesn't work for me at all, so the sooner I get out the better.

Confused is an understatement - Having no real clue I just kept clicking the convert to rapids thing, and then set my account to no go higher than RapidMedium. But as I've around 150Gb stored and 50Gb is the max, you have to tick the box to delete after 60 days otherwise it will cost you (either Rapids, or quite soon money).

Can't say I'm hugely impressed and this is going to mean a lot of people may move elsewhere.

I have tried MegaUpload in the past, although for me personally I thought the service was shite - upload manager crashes all the time, stops at 99% then takes forever to complete, and it just didn't seem intuitive. I really like RS Manager, so want to find another service with something as capable before jumping ship. I'll let my current files/accounts say with RS for now as it's bought and paid for.

But I'll be on the hunt for somewhere else I feel...

RE: Rapidshare - New Premium User Payment System
Maybe i really am as dumb as i look but none of this makes any sense to me,i've only got 9 files on Rapidshare all of which i also still have on dvd so i could always upload them to another site in the future,i recently had my Daily Motion account cancelled for violations which they never specified in the email they sent me (thanks for that so helpful) so i'm out of the video posting business for the moment,i will reread this thread and Rapidshare's news/information sections and if my frazzled mind can make any sense of it i will be back posting videos before you can say "if it aint broke don't fix it" in the meantime i would like to thank in advance everyone who's videos i will be watching/downloading,now have a good evening,LG.

RE: Rapidshare - New Premium User Payment System
I got back from a quick hols to find all this mess... A very complicated system to wrap your head around at first indeed !!!

I'm a bit unlucky coz I have only been getting about 1 in 3 months free under the old point system anyway through downloads ( haven't been posting as much the last few months - Busy working more ), I ended up about 3000 short of the 10 000 needed.

I take it you are all aware of the "Happy Hours" for downloading ?
If not, here you go... between 1am and 9am UK time, you STILL get 10Gb for 1 Gb of downloading. This is very important to me !

So; if you downgrade to RapidSmall which gives you 1Gb limit per billing period, you actually get 10Gb BETWEEN those hours....

I have just downgraded to RapidSmall @ 4 rapids per day which will give me 5 times more days than at RapidMedium rate and deleted some of my back-up files for other content not Babechannel related to take me under the 50Gb (just in case - I can't afford to be stung for 78 rapids per day if something goes wrong, I'll be out in 3 days !)
Ticked the "automatically delete files if not downloaded in 60 days" - if they are not wanted, then fair enough, and to be fair, they'll be doing me a favour and tidiyng up my acc !

RS have hinted that there will be a NEW reward system for Uploaders, when you think about it, they wouldn't have a business if no-one uploaded... They have to be able to win NEW customers as well as KEEP thier existing ones, and that's NOT going to happen if the dedicated uploaders scarper...

I'm going to wait it out, and hope it all gets sorted sooner rather that too late ! - Here's hoping !!

RE: Rapidshare - New Premium User Payment System
Well, I did some experimenting.

Hotfile is OK, I like the ftp capability. It's definitely looking promising.
Seems it does have support folders. It's file-management is not the most user friendly, but it is sufficient.
I quite like that uploaded files go into a folder with the days date, which makes it easier to track your files down later.
6 months premium account for $35 is pretty good, wish they did a 3 month option though.

Netload is promising. It's fairly user unfriendly, but as you learn your way through it, it actually does most of what the other system do, just not as polished looking. It does ftp for premium accounts, and does support folders, but a bit clumsily. I think I could live with it for uploading, but I do worry if it may too unfriendly for casual downloaders. It's also german based, and certain parts aren't translated, which is fun Smile

Mediafire is much more polished and user friendly, but uploads were horrifically slow for me. There is also no upload app or ftp support, and for some reason, the web interface doesn't always work correctly in firefox. It uses a flash based system, and while uploading, I was unable to minimize the uploading window as you are supposed to be able to because the 'hide' tag was was lost off the top of the page and you can't scroll it down to retrieve it. I could live with that, just open another window and carry on, but it's annoying. I have also found the latest version of the flash plug-in to be very buggy and prone to crashes which is worrying as this is the only method of uploading with mediafire.

I'm currently investigating another host, megashares. This is a new one to me, recommended by a friend. It has folder support, files upto 10gb size, files are retained for 90 days without download, premium account files unlimited.
I had problems with the standard browser based upload in firefox, but they have a java plug-in that seems to work quite well, and also support ftp and apparently there is a desktop app for premium accounts. Upload is slow, but no worse than others for me.
Premium accounts are quite cheap if you bulk buy, e.g. 1 month is $9.95, 3 months $19.95, 6months $34.95. They only seem to take paypal though, and accounts appear to be re-billed automatically, which I don't like.
One thing to note is that, unless you check the box when uploading, your files are public, they can be searched by others and downloaded or linked to by others. That's kind of the point with megashares, hence the name, megashares.
I'm waiting for some files to upload so I can then see how it all looks from a downloaders perspective.

I think I'm leaning towards hotfile right now, but we'll see.

EDIT : Well, I just did a web transfer of some of my files from rapidshare to Hotfile. Took a while to get it set up, I used rapidshare to get a download list of all my files, loaded it in a text editor, then used search/replace to get all the links in the appropriate format, then simply copy-pasted them into hotfiles 'remote upload' box half a dozen at a time.
There's a limit on how many you can transfer a day, and rapidshare complained about exceeding my traffic limit and upped my account package, but I'll complete the transfer in the next couple days so all will be good Smile
