RE: UFC
You beat me to it, i've just seen it on the SS site. I'm not surprised Sky have finaly given in & jumped on the band wagon, after realising mma is now a major sport with teenagers starting to become mma gym regulars, & having dipped their toe in the water with the weekly domestic mma show.
I think this may lead to Sky & ESPN coming up with a deal that would see Sky & UFC putting on 2 or 3 fight nights a year using domestic fighters which would be a good idea as most fans wanna see all the homegrown up & comers but also wanna see the top UFC guys on the main shows which is the problem with UFC 120 where fans are pissed at the number of English fighters & no big international names.
I just hope this doesn't mean we're 6 months to a year away from paying £14.95 every 2 to 3 months for the UFC shows, trust me this will be the plan for Dana & Sky as they will believe people will pay the money. Yes it's worth it for the number of fights as opposed to paying the same for 1 boxing match but i still wouldn't buy everyone, that's why i like it being on ESPN as it's only £9 a month & there's also a shit load of football as well.

Mitchell has it on the money. Americans pay $50 per UFC event, with an average of 10 events a year, you do the maths; were soon to be ass fucked.
My theory is Sky will take over The UFC and ESPN will move onto Strikeforce as a direct competitor.
This is gonna be a downward spiral for 'Ultimate Fighting'.

Yeah good point on Strikeforce on ESPN, but i doubt it will be a downward spiral as mma if the fastest growing sport worldwide & it's prime organistion The UFC is the fastest growing sports business, business being the appropriate word $£$£$£$£.
In total there'll be 19 UFC events in 2010 & 5 Fight Nights 2 of which were/are THF Finale so thats 3 free view (in the US) Fight Nights, if Zuffa & Sky Box Office think i'm gonna pay £284.05 per year on top of my Sky subscription... Errr fuck no .
If they do like they do in north America where they get to see the worldwide shows for free then i wouldn't mind doing the same & paying for it when they come to Europe as on average they do 4 shows outside of north America so we'll pay £59.80 per year, but they've aready said they're gonna try & do more shows over here, i guess it's a case of watch this space & wait to see what 2011 brings???

RE: UFC
First off Welcome to the UFC thread synergist! Glad to have u on her m8
Mitchell is an exceptional UFC lad
Im delighted that were goin more public with the UFC, it no doubt will attract a whole bunch of new fans to add to the hardcore!
Which can only be a good thing..Surely.
Just hope Sky dont get total control of it as u say synergist. They'd no doubt turn it into ppv..Which would be totally shit!
ESPN are huge so lets hope they keep control of the whole thing coz 9 bucks a month is much better than say 20 odd quid every time therz a show!

RE: UFC
Don't forget chaps, UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares ESPN 1am tonight/tomorrow set your dvd/videos.
Middleweight: Nate Marquardt vs Rousimar Palhares
Catchweight: (159lbs),: Efrain Escudero vs Charles Oliveira
Lightweight: Jim Miller vs Gleison Tibau
Lightweight: Ross Pearson vs Cole Miller
Think i'm gonna go with Marquardt due to the caliber of his previous opponents & Pearson, just because i wanna see him get a title fight.
The Escudero v Oliveria fight maybe a good one going their records, i'll take Escudero.

RE: UFC
What was Palhares thinking?Complaing to the ref like a girl!Your opponent was sweating! He's gonna be slippy!!!He got what he deserved from Nate in my eyes.
1st defeat for Pearson was disappointing..Quality strike from Miller gave him the fight with the submission that followed to finish Pearson off.
Hate it when the brits get beaten.Dust yourself down Ross and get it goin again lad.
Charles Oliviera looks a great prospect
