OSG - Censorship & Regulatory Related Discussion

At the moment the output of the channels is still making them money so that might explain why few are ready to take on the censors at ofcom however its only a matter of time before the audience and callers get bored of this tried and tested method which has been going on now for far too long. If the viewers boycott phoning these channels under the present laws set out by ofcom and the calls start to dry up I really do think then that the babe channels will have to have a serious rethink and really take on the bastards at ofcom because money talks and these channels would do anything to save their business than go under.

Does anybody know why Ofcon are so dilligent in their pursuit of code breaches of the broadcasting code?
What are they getting out of it by adopting this policy?
Who is rewarding them for such a stance?
What do they think will happen if full R18 is allowed on UK tv?

Sorry for all the questions but I'd really like to know what motivates them.

I've a funny feeling that what really keeps the channels going is the caller-certainty that you're about to speak to a hot babe (cos you can see her) and that appeals to the element of the phone-sex audience who'd never call a chat-line if they thought some hideous old munter might be on the other end. Also, if it's on TV, it's legit, right? So it's not a shameful thing to call, right? That would be my interpretation of how and why many guys choose to call the shows. can't speak for all, but that must constitute a significant core of the client-base and I just don't believe that a failure to rethink the regulatory code will affect that demographic. Was staying in a hotel last night, was pretty drunk and feeling randy so I thought I'd order an adult movie and to my surprise it was a full blown hardcore uncut porno. Now I know that hotels don't have Freeview or SKY as such, they just have a mix of random channels, but it is still in the UK.

Does anybody know where this thing comes in under the law? There was an option to block the adult content but I don't think that this would be the first thing that would pop into a parent's head whilst staying in a hotel, therefore a child perhaps staying in a separate room may view this content.

Never heard of full on uncensored in hotels and I have stayed in dozens,
Softcore yes but even that was cut more than ,say,televisionx,
So can you say which hotel it was?

Thought this had stopped, but basically it is a private network and as such exempt from broadcasting laws. Legal as long as it is R18 or below.

Was a Radisson Blu hotel and yes it was completely uncut

The provision of films in hotels is authorised on their Premises Licence issued under the Licensing Act 2003 and will be permitted 24 hours a day. A mandatory condition on the licence restricts the showing of films to only those classified by the BBFC and a local authority licensing committee would not further restrict this to prevent the showing of R18, unlike Ofcom.
All central london hotels have this permission and the majority utilise it but have to put in place safe guards to prevent children from accessing such content.
This authorisation only applies to the showing of films in the guest rooms which are regarded as an extension of a persons private dwelling, hence you can also consume alcohol 24 hours as well from the mini bar, hell let's party.
R18 films are not permitted to be shown in any hotel function room/cinema unless a seperate licence has been aquired under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 to define these areas as a sex cinema.
The Daily Mail raised this loophole with the DCMS some years back and whilst there has been legislation introduced by the last labour government with regard to sexual entertainment venues the showing of R18 in hotels remain uneffected with no consultation in the pipeline or forseeable future.
