Takanori Gomi v Clay Guida
This should've been a great start to the night but knowing the skill of his opponent Guida chose to over use his usual energetic style & ended up dancing around for what seemed like most of the fight but he finished it with his customary submission to take himself to three straight victories.
Dong Hyun Kim v Nate Diaz
What should've been the fight of the night, no question ended up being no more than a very very good training session of which Hyun Kim helped Diaz work on an already excellent guard, a good performance from Hyun Kim who remains unbeaten but not one he will be shouting about.
Thiago Silva v Brandon Vera
A good controling performance from Silva especially since it was his first fight after a year out injured which may go some way in explaining why there wasn't much action when he had Vera controlled on the ground, a wins a win when you've not fought for 364 days. I'm not sure if it was the visual aspect of the tattoos or the fact he was just in great shape but Thiago Silva looked every bit the beast.
Brandon
'The Truth' Vera may have to face the truth
that his UFC career is now over, he'll do well in Strikeforce.
Chris Leben v Brian Stann
If Brian Stann thinks knocking out Chris Leben now makes him a top 10 fighter then he's very much mistaken, yes it was a good victory but Leben is no more than a fighter like Martin Kampmann, a fighter who the UFC will use to test everyone & anyone who thinks they've got what it takes to be someone. The only reason Leben's name is being shouted at the minute is because he gained 2 UFC victories in 2 weeks.
Frankie Edgar v Gray Maynard
This was a pretty decent fight without being spectacular. The first 2 rounds aside it was dominated by Edgar's stayaway style, i personally aren't a big fan of his as i don't like the way he dances around & just jumps in every now & again to throw a few combos or against an opponent he knows he can beat add a takedown every now & again.
Maynard only has himself to blame as he punched himself out in the first round & after that was too tired to try any decent takedowns & when he did Edgar brushed them off with ease.
While watching the runthrough of the rounds after the fight i thought this is either gonna be 3 rounds to 2 for Edgar or this being Vegas & with no clear winner the judges will do what Vegas judges do & call it a draw, Oh how right i was.
Hats off to Daniel Roberts & Brad Tavares for a couple of great finishes.
All in all i didn't think this was a great event, most of the fights were pretty mundane.
