Johnson is doing his best to keep Australia in the game, being both their highest scorer and their leading wicket taker so far. The match is quite nicely poised at the moment, but England should really be able to get a decent first innings lead from this position.

Well done alastair cook for getting another 100 against the Aussies, over 700 runs for the series now, quality batting.

I agree, Hughes knew that the ball had bounched short of him. He jumped up in desperation and then started celebrating when he shaw the reaction of other members of the team.bladewave

He should have said that he was unsure to the umpires and then waiting for the obvious review.

I can't understand when he didn't dive forward a bit and catch it for real.

Apparently, he DID say that he wasn't sure about the catch to the umpire immediately afterwards, so did Haddin. Cookie himself said as much on tv during the post-day interview. They all seemed to be having a laugh about it out in the middle. It looked as if most of the appealling and celebrating was done by aussie fielders who were too far away to see properly, but just got caught up in it as they badly needed a wicket.

No harm no foul i reckon. Besides, the Bell incident was probably even more iffy to be honest.

Is that why only a few of them congratulated Cooke or applauded him when he was out.
Bell wasn't out.. Technology proved that he didn't hit it. How can that be iffy?

Well the hotspot may not be 100% accurate with tiny edges when the weather is hot. Snicko showed a noise (albeit about 5 minutes later when that was ready).

I still think the right decision was done, there was enough benefit of the doubt for a not out. However if they ever get snicko working fast enough to be used, that would definately help a lot.

I play a lot of cricket (though i'll be the 1st to admit that i've never faced a ball at 90mph, and hopefully never will Big Grin) believe me when i tell you that any batsman KNOWS when he's nicked it regardless of how slight the touch is. The feedback from the shock absorbers in the handle of the bat pick up everything these days and transmit it to the batsman. As bcl said, Snicko also showed a definite touch at the exact moment the ball struck/passed the bat. Also if you know you haven't nicked it, you'd appeal the decision right away, Bell took way too long.

I'm not saying Bell should have walked, far from it, but once the umpire gave him out he should have gone. I know that there was no highlight on "hotspot" but even i heard the nick on tv, the ball was nowhere near anything else but his bat. Only Bell knows for certain if he hit it or not, but i reckon he did.

Doesn't really matter now though, does it? Big Grin

Botham may need to apologise for that remark, as the umpires have since confirmed that Hughes said he wasn't sure about the catch and therefore was obviously not cheating.

Just wondered - when you say "even i heard" does that mean you're hard of hearing colino?
