Actually it doesn't have to be earned over a period of time. Whether someone is world class or not at a particular point in time is simply a reflection of their standing at that particular point in time. If today that player is a certain selection for a world team then today that player is world class. Check a dictionary.

Ok, let's try this....As i said before, since you are so insistent on Watson's current "standing"..... If you can show me one quote, one piece written ANYWHERE on the web from ANY cricket expert that says "Shane Watson, world class all-rounder" I'll show you TEN that say "world class" about Sachin Tendulkar, the batsman. Some evidence to back up your claim might be a good thing, i'm pretty sure i'll find PLENTY as regards Tendulkar. There's a difference between the two, Tendulkar is world class, Watson (despite you continually pointing at the rankings) simply isn't.

And i won't need a dictionary for it, either. Best of luck, but i'm not expecting it from you anytime soon......

there are only a few "world class" players playing cricket and the rest are average. the reason is there is too much played internationally and domesticaly, also the raise of t20 and ipl. look at phil hughes burst onto the screen in 2009 at middlesex then struggled the ashes sereis and since. t20 is bad for technique

england lost by 4 runs in 2nd t20.

Certainly, I'm happy to oblige:

"The bargain of the Indian Premier League, Watson, who sold for US$125,000, was the Player of the Tournament for his 472 runs and 17 wickets, and that performance proved that he is a world class performer."

Thanks, now would you like the god knows how many of the same platitudes that i could find about Sachin? Mentioning them in the same breath is insulting to him, but i guess you would do, right?

But hey, if you consider them equalls in world class standing, go right ahead.

Tendulkar is only the 14th ranked ODI batsman at the moment, Watson is 21st. Tendulkar's real glory days in ODIs were 1996-1998 when he was usually ranked 1st. Watson on the other hand is at his peak now.

Comparing Watson with Tendulkar??!!!

Nuff said. I can't top that. No, really....BounceBounce

And William H, Oooops!! I did you the honour of checking your quote. being called "world class" after his performances in the IPL is hardly a ringing endorsement, is it?

For a T20 game today I would pick Watson over Tendulkar if given that choice.

That would be an easy decision aaron! Smile Anyway, another great game today and another tense finale with Australia edging it by 4 runs. Another great bowling performance by Watson too, Australia's best bowler again today, keeping things tight while also collecting wickets, and he ended up with an impressive 2-17 from 4 overs.

I'd say Watson is definitely a world class performer at ODI. Well anyway 2 good T20 matches this week and Australia end England's record run of 8 successive T20 victories. So a win each and a good advert for T20!
