Thanks for that Mitchell! I've heard of - and seen and enjoyed - bits of UFC but I'd honestly never heard of it being referred to as MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) before. Some seriously not-to-be-messed-with guys there, far removed from the badge-kissing, diving and rolling around heroes in whom we entrust how we feel come Monday morning.

Generally, I'd have to say club over country. Everytime I see an International Weekend/Midweek fixture coming up I groan, I'd MUCH rather watch club football whether it be Prem, Championship, CL or FA Cup etc. instead.

However, that said, if you asked me whether I would rather see England win the World Cup or Chelsea win the Champions League, I reckon I would have to say England to be honest (and trust me that's a hard thing to say )

scrap friendlie, too much football on. same with cricket, ecb increased the domestic t20 competition to over 100+games which have screwed the county championship side of cricket which should be the honing ground for the next england stars.

the modern day footballer only cares about how much money they can earn, some how women can they shag (some alot in 1 go, some with other other player's wags). bendtner said he is worth the £50k he gets, he is the player that got papped falling out of a night club with trousers down.

england at the euros and world cup, not during qualification. they need a manager to instill the pride back into the shirt, i say get rid of the players from the world cup and play the under 21 side to get them ready for brazil 2014.

It's a tough question for me. I'm an Irish Liverpool fan.I think had Liverpool one a league title more recently it would be an easier choice. If its a choice between the Premiership and qualification for a major international tournament I'd take the Premiership everytime, not sure about the Champions League.
If it was a question of Ireland winning the Euros or the WC I think I'd have to pick Ireland. For me nothing unites a country like a major sporting event, here anyway. While I'd celebrate a Liverpool title like a madman it'd be a constant argument against rival fans (not necessarily a bad thing). If it was the national team though, the whole country would be celebrating. Plus you cant beat watching a game with mates on a nice summers day with a pint in hand!
Unfortunately, for now, both seem as unlikely as the other!

Question for the ones who only watch their team on tv

If your club never had games broadcast live on sky etc would you still choose club over country?

In response to gazfc's post, for me living in Ireland, I mostly only get to see Liverpool on the box although I make it a priority to get over to Anfield 3-4 times every season. I've been twice this season (1-0 vs West Brom & 3-1 vs Napoli) but it's quite expensive as you can imagine to do so on a more regular basis. It's hard to answer your question to be honest. I was 10 years old when the Premier League began and the massive tv coverage really kicked in. Before that of course it was Match of the Day on a Saturday night and the game on Sunday on ITV with Brian Moore's iconic commentary (i can still remember being in tears in the living room as he shouted "IT'S UP FOR GRABS NOW" as Michael Thomas broke our hearts at Anfield in '89). I know that was a Friday night and not a Sunday just incase somebody picks up on that

Back on point, and again as I said, it's a tough question for me to answer because I've never been without tv coverage for as long as i can remember back but I'd like to think I'd still choose LFC. In my heart I think I would. I love and support my country dont get me wrong, I can clearly remember the hysteria during Italia '90, when we beat Italy in USA '94, and, along with most of the country, I bunked off work and got pissed for a couple of the matches in 2002!!! I also vented my rage toward the French and in particular Thierry Henry last year when he cheated us out of a fair crack at getting to South Africa with his hand. But being honest, I think Liverpool means more to me. I'm more hurt when Liverpool are beaten than when Ireland get beat. That's the most honest and best way I can find to answer your question gaz....

Good point Gazfc! Not seeing their team on television very often, and not being able to/choosing not to go to watch them play live can make some fans relate that bit less to their team. Meanwhile, most if not all international matches are screened live, so for these people seeing England or whoever they support internationally, is far more accessible than watching their own club side.

Master Yoda, not for the first time in his posting career, has hit the nail absolutely on the head - the greatest singular barometer of how you truly feel about your team, be it club or country, is how you feel inside when you LOSE! If you just feel sad and disappointed that your team has lost, then that's one thing. But if you really feel it in your blood and the pit of your stomach, and if it really ruins your weekend and you're still analysing how it came about come Monday, then that's your true love in football terms. Your head might try to convince you otherwise, but it's your heart that tells you whether it's club or country for you.

Pretty much the same as Yoda, football has for most of the time only been one click away although I didn't get Sky till about 1995 but the first English club game I remember watching was Liverpool 3-3 Man Utd January 1994 at my mates house & the first game I can remember watching at home was
Liverpool 4-3 Newcastle 3 April 1996, before this it was just a case of watching Grandstand on the BBC, By 15 April 1989 I was already a young Liverpool fan & was doin my usual & sat in front of the tv watching Granstand when the first reports of what was happening at Hillsborough started comming in & since that day & seeing those scenes I've been a very very passionate fan of Liverpool Football Club.
But the first football I can remember watching on tv was the Italia 90 World Cup, England 1–0 Egypt, the only bit I remember is Mark Wright heading home a Gazza freekick. & some of Cameroon 2-3 England (aet) & then all the first full football match I ever watched live on tv, the
1990 World Cup final Argentina 0-1 West Germany.

So gazfc I was a Red a few years before I even knew international football existed but be it Liverpool away at Burscough FC in an FA Cup replay on a freezing cold Tuesday night in January or an England friendly away in Denmark on a Wednesday in February I would be in the stands (If I had tickets & wasn't at work) or if not then I'll be sat.... Stood in front of the tv cheering the boys on.

These were the days when football was just football!!!
