RE: Liverpool FC
In the 10 games Kenny has been in charge we've taken 20 points, man utd have taken 19 and arsenal have taken 18. Its not much of a difference when you look at it like that. But then you have to think that in the 20 games under Hodgson we only took 25 points. So it shows a significant improvement and begs the question would we be in the top 4 if Kenny had been in charge from the outset this season?? Bear in mind we are now just 8 points behind Man City who are in 4th despite us having our worst season since 1993 in the Premier League.

Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

Next season.............laugh

I was looking back over the old posts in this thread from around the time Kenny took over from Hodgson and the mancs, the blue nose (who doesnt post here or in the banter thread anymore) and the neutrals were laughing at the appointment calling it a step backwards and they slated Kenny saying he'd been out of football too long and we were looking at his appointment with "rose tinted glasses". I wonder would they come on here now and actually admit they got it wrong Big GrinBig Grin

I would have absolutely no problem at all in coming onto this thread and admitting that I had got it wrong - the trouble is that you have dissected a cross-section of the season based on the last few games and seriously reckon that it would have been the same had you started the season with Kenny Dalglish in charge.

Admittedly, there has been significant improvement since Dalglish's arrival, but come off it - did you seriously think that Liverpool would now be in the relegation fight with or without Roy Hodgeson? Dalglish came in at the perfect time, taking over with the club in crisis but with new owners already in place and in need of making a big-buy statement. The opportunity arose to sell the sulking Torres for much more than they might've expected given his recent form, and suddenly the money was there to finance that big-buy statement. Dalglish was in a win/win situation - fail and it was Hodgeson's fault for leaving him a mess/succeed to some extent (with the aid of two new, hungry signings to replace the want-away Torres) and it was all down to him. Easy game this football management lark when you step in at the right time eh?

I understand why Yoda is enthusiastic about the future, but also feel that he is allowing his giddyitis to get the better of him much in the same way as a good start to next season (ie a throw-in in the first minutelaugh) will signal an outbreak of said condition on the red half of Merseyside in August.

The League title is won over 38 games between mid-August and sometime in May and not between the beginning of January and mid-March YodaWink But don't ask the likes of Gerrard and Carragher - ask Alan Hansen, Graeme Souness, etc. Better still, take your stats to Kenny Dalglish himself and he'll laugh you out of AnfieldBig Laugh

RE: Liverpool FC
First off i never said anything about winning titles...i merely pointed out how our points tally has added up since KD took over as gaffer and that it was my belief that we'd be top 4 or at least challenging for top 4 had he been in charge since August. I doubt there are many who'd disagree with me on that. My reference to next season was an attempt at humour which seems to have been sadly missedRolleyes

I must have those "rose tinted glasses" on again lindor mustnt i???

Am i supposed to apologise for showing a loyalty towards my club and my clubs manager?? At the end of the day, i'm a Liverpool supporter and you're not. So i'm better qualified to talk about the improvement in our play and in the results on the pitch since KD took over, than you are. Do i think we'd have beaten Chelsea away and Man Utd at home if Hodgson was in charge?? No i bloody well dont and nor do i think we'd have even beaten Sunderland the other day or Wolves away from home a few weeks back if he was still there. So yes i think we'd have a relegation battle on our hands and we'd certainly not have an outside squeek on getting in the top 4 ( a very outside squeek by the wayWink ). And i dont for one second think Mr. Suarez or Mr. Carroll would be at Anfield if he was there either.

Also you can look at the marked improvement in the form of Raul Meireles since Dalglish came in....games were passing him by under the long ball and rigid tactics Hodgson favoured and he failed to score in 18 appearances under him. Since Dalglish came in and installed his passing and movement tactics, he has scored 5 times in his last 9 games and he is getting on the ball, creating chances and bursting into the box to get on the end of things. He's a different player. But i'm sure that'd have happened regardless of the manager eh lindor??bladewave

Then of course we have the youngsters getting their opportunities. Martin Kelly, Danny Wilson, Jay Spearing and Jon Jo Shelvey have all gotten into the team and impressed under Kenny. Kenny seems to have realised how useless Poulsen, Konchesky and Jovanovic are too thank christTongue

Anyways....i suppose i'll just start being downbeat again if my positivity is putting the noses of the manc followers out of joint................................

Ya like fuck i will Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Yoda #722 Personally I think we are doing well at the moment because of the situation we were in before & not just because Kenny's in charge, I don't think it would've been different if we would've got someone like Manuel Pellegrini in as lindor pointed out he came at the right time with all the changes,

Some said the same about Roy hodgson interms of the so called mess Rafa had left yet it was Roy Hodgson who signed Raul Meireles, the very player who possibly will now go on to be our player of the season.

It's a well known fact that we always & now jokingly say "Next season will be our year", well the fact is that we've never won or realistically challenged for the Premier League title but I would say with all the changes within the Premier League with all the 'other teams' picking up thus meaning the 'top 4' are no longer dominant & the rise of City & Tottenham then maybe we could consider ourselves one of the 'other teams' & push on like City & Tottenham, so maybe next season will be our year & by this I don't mean we will win the league but maybe we will challenge for it or at least be in with a points distance chance come mid April.

Fair enough point mate. But the point i was making in my original post is that the anti-Liverpool brigade who used come on this thread when Kenny took over were saying it's a step backwards, he's been out of football too long and it's all gonna go tits up. Kenny has proved in just 3 months that those opinions and comments were complete bollocks. It's funny reading back through the posts from post #368 to post #380......that was my whole point to begin with here.

RE: Liverpool FC
Yoda, you are of course absolutely entitled to your opinion, and to be upbeat about Liverpool's future for next season as, like I said in my post earlier, you have replaced a want-away non-trier in Torres with not one but two players who will give their all for the club.

I normally try to stay away from posting on this thread as I feel that it should be used by the Liverpool fans to praise and/or criticise their own team as they see fit, and believe that this was the reason why this thread was set-up in the first place; I therefore respectfully prefer to follow the debate on the more generic Football Banter thread and leave this one to the red scousers.

However, when this evening I noticed that Malicious had posted the most recent post here I was curious to see what he'd said, and inadvertently noticed that you had kinda invited such as myself to dare to come onto here and respond to our doubts concerning Dalglish's appointment in January and so I decided to take up the offer.

I don't believe that anything I said was unfair and indeed was my own honest opinion, which may well, given time, come back to haunt me. Football, as someone once said, is a game of opinions and we all have one. Of course yours is more relevant to Liverpool FC than mine is as your level of interest in them is far greater than mine and will thus be closer to the general feelings of the contributors on this thread, but I just felt that you were inviting me to update and re-adjust my opinion since my last post on here (at the time of Kenny Dalglish's appointment) and I decided to take up your offer.

Not a bitter or jealous biased Manc opinion - although naturally tintedWink - but an honest appraisal of the situation with an objective view of things and looking at the bigger picture.

We'll forgive you this timeWinkTongue I had a moan on the day Kenny was appointed that it was just a 6 month appointment and that it needed clarification. It looks like that may be cleared up with a longer term contract in the next few daysBig Grin Reports gathering pace too that John W. Henry is going to unveil plans to re-develop Anfield bringing the capacity up to between 65-70,000.

RE: Liverpool FC
Think we would've been in a relegation battle if Hodgson stayed in charge. The players hated his methods, his training and he clearly wasn't a motivator and an overall uninspiring character to everyone.Players and fans.

Torres would've left and we'd have brought in Carlton Cole or Johan Elmander to replace him!!Instead of Suarez and Carroll. So for me we'd have been in a right scrap.

Kenny was the perfect appointment and your right to bring it up Yoda.Where have all his doubters gone?

For me we'd be in the top 4 just now (even with our patchy squad) if Kenny had been in charge from the start of the season. He'd have got the most from all the players from day one.Taking away our piss poor start to the season.

We're only 8 points behind City just now.Is there anyone on here who seriously thinks that we wouldn't have had those extra 8 points under Kenny....Come on.

A Hiddink,Pellegrini or a Rijkaard wasn't the answer.Dalglish was.

How many people thought appointing Kenny Dalglish was a romantic decision aimed at going back to our past?It wasn't. It was a decision designed to transform our future. He's already put together a lethal new strike force in Suarez and Carroll now let's see what Kenny can bring in during the summer.Im sure we won't be disappointed.

Gonna be as predictable as the sun rising here but Liverpool to win the title next season or at least go close.
