John Hathaway v Kris McCray
This was a good fight to bounce back with after his first loss & it was a good accomplished performance to go with it. I've said before that I though Ross Pearson will be the one to watch as far as UK fighters go but I have to say I may have got this one wrong as Hathaway has a very good ground game interms of defence & the one that most UK fighters struggle with, attack, he's also very good in the clinch & if he can improve his striking he will no doubt be a title contender within the next 12 to 18 month.
Leonard Garcia v Chan Sung Jung
The UFC would be forgiven for starting every card with a fight between these two as I doubt anyone would complain. It looked like it wasn't gonna be a like for like rematch with Garcia starting with a technical strategy & Sung Jung looking to find his feet, but come the second round it was straight back to the style of business these two like to do & this time round it was Sung Jung who always looked the more likely winner as Garcia started to look tired & unable to stay in the fight & with
1 second left in the second round 'The Korean Zombie' locked on to a 'Twister', a submission that I personally have never seen & neither has a UFC crowd as this was the first time it has been applied in a UFC fight, but I somehow think it won't be the last.
Amir Sadollah v DaMarques Johnson
This was a pretty good fight to start off with, with Sadollah looking to use his crisp Muay Thai & Johnson knowing he was the better ground fighter, It looked like going to a split decision but DeMarques Johnson's fitness was key come the second round in a physical fight which he took on just 2 weeks notice & once Sadallah had him on the back foot it was just a matter of time before the ref stepped in.
Sadallah has been on a good run since his TUF win & will now be looking to climb up the ladder interms of opponents to improve on his 5-2 record.
Dan Hardy v Anthony Johnson
Well what can I say other than I'm massively disappointed with this fight as yet again a fighter has walked into a Mixed Martial Arts Octagon & chose to wrestle for the whole of the 15 minute fight, but more so with the fighter being Anthony
'Rumble' Johnson a fighter with 6 of his 9 wins comming by KO, this has been the story for the past 12 to 18 months with the Ultimate
Fighting Championship becoming the Ultimate
Wrestling Championship. That said Johnson used the tactics which he thought would win him the fight against a dangerous striker who talking of which Dan Hardy has been saying since the loss to GSP he has been working on his ground game but he once again was so easy to takedown that Anthony Johnson could've set his Grandad to do the job for him, but more to the point Hardy still didn't show any attack when he was on his back, this seriously annoys me when I see fighters on their back with their opponent on top but not doing anything with regards to a submission attempt but the fighter on the bottom still refuses to throw elbows down onto the top of the head & try to open up a cut & also score some points just like John Hathaway did in his fight earlier on the same card.
Dan Hardy has now lost his last 3 fights & he also fought for the title way before he should've & I personally think it is this reason why he won't be religated to the Strikeforce cards which I think he would've been if his loss to GSP wasn't a title fight, he now badly needs to win his next fight but I also think his next fight will be against a top level opponent, maybe Carlos Condit as I don't see Condit fighting Chris Lytle who he should've faced in Australia but had to withrdraw due to injury & with the nature of the loss to Condit I can see Hardy asking for & getting a rematch with the fighter who's a kickboxer & Brazilian ju jitsu fighter, Oh & fights out of Jackson's
Submission Fighting camp, for me Dan Hardy is probably just another Michael Bisping.
Antônio Rogério Nogueira v Phil Davis
This fight annoyed me just as much as the last with a stand up fighter trying to stop the takedowns of a wrestler untill the obvious happened then it was a matter of watching a wrestling match while the tv guide tried to convince me I was watching Mixed Martial Arts!!!
Not a great night on the betting fornt... Only joking chaps I had a last minute bet (£250) on John Hathaway to win at 1/4 = £62.5 - the £9.10 I lost = £53.40
Grandad Johnson can try & wrestle this away from me if he likes but he should be warned my elbows are pretty sharp!!!
