what makes lampard, gerrard, coles, terry, ferdinand, johnson, rooney so special that they deserve an automatic selection to the england squad regardless of form and fitness?
right ok so whats your point bigguy? i never said any of those above players were special did i? by the way blackpools best player is scottish is he not? like regenerated said with all due respect to wales england wasnt tested and quite a few welsh players play in the championship and you can see that when they play at international level. in MY opinion we need experience blended with youth. there is the experience of players like terry, who by the way i do rate him as a defender, and other experienced players ie a gerrard or a lampard and a few others, but get youngsters in like wilshere and young is still a young player. you see what i did there! if they are young enough they are good enough, so its about time an england manager started to put more of these youngsters in instead of going back to the ones who keep failing at international tournaments. let some others have a go instead, at failing lol!

I may get lynched here but i'm gonna say it anyway having read through the previous posts. I dont mean any disrespect to you guys or the English team but perhaps if you guys lowered yer expectations going into major tournaments then ye wouldnt be so disappointed every second summer. It happens everytime. England will breeze through qualification (except for the 08 Euros) and all the press and fans will build the team up as world beaters but it'll end at the quarter final stages at best when you come up against any side of real quality. Then the team of winners only weeks before are ridiculed and all of a sudden arent good enough anymore. The fact that England hasnt gone beyond the QF of a major tournament for 15 years is no coincidence. That's 2 generations of a team that havent been good enough. It's not that the players dont try, it's just that they are not good enough as a team. I believe it'd be the same no matter what XI you put out...it'll be good, maybe even great to a point but then it'll fail and those players will also be turned on by the press and fans.
Before anybody says it i'm well aware of Irelands shortcomings. But as a smaller nation, with football only as its 4th most popular sport, our fans have realistic ambitions which is why we never feel let down by the team.
Now ye can release the hounds.............
Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

fair point yoda, the problem is as individuals certain players are classed as world class, i wont go into who i think is and isnt cos might upset people again. when they come together as a team these individuals dont gel together. the players themselves always say before every tournament "we are going there to win it". but yes as individuals they are some quality players in that england team. lampard regularly scores 20 goals a season, and gerrard chips in with goals and assists as well every season not bad for midfielders. you see yoda i mentioned your pal there. i dont think xavi and iniesta score as many as gerrard and lampard, and they play in the same team week in week out. lets hope capello stays with this 4 3 3 formation and see what happens. i dont even know where euros is being held next year.

I think the scousers are winning because there's three of them who regularly come onto here to post, whereas it's just Shrute and myself on here who support United and banter's not really my thing anyway. There are notable United fans elsewhere on this forum such as AlexFury and Steven6 to name but two, but with Fonz gone from here there's no-one to really take the fight to the scousers - let's face it - Wolves are better and more vocally supported on here than United !

Simply because footballers - like people from all walks of life - find their place in their chosen careers. Championship players are Championship players because they are just that - Championship players!
I don't think that any of the above are automatic choices in the most rigid manner of the word; quite simply, if you or any of us was paid the money that the England Manager gets paid, then if we wanted to keep hold of our job - and the pay that goes with it - then we would pick the best players in the country and hope and pray that these players - who, don't forget do not train together except on international duty - gell and perform together like they do for their clubs.
It's an age-old thing with England and I think the best bit of common sense spoken here regards England's expectations has been done so by an Irishman - or should that be an Irishgedi? And why is this the case?
Simply because he can take a step back and see it all objectively!
