RE: Liverpool FC
What sort of player's this McCarthy youngster, I know several teams are linked with him but I've never taken much notice of him to be honest, I think he plays central but with Raul Meireles & Steven Gerrard will he get many games & if he's defensive then why give Lucas & Spearing new contracts, I know he's only 20 or so & would be around long after Gerrard & buying him now will save 6 or 7m in a few years so maybe it's a good shout.
David Ngog looks to be on his way .... £8m that'll be the day, I know he's only 22 & better than some people give him credit for but come on if we can get £8m for him that'll be a bigger shock than the £35m we payed for the big lad,

RE: Liverpool FC
Re McCarthy and the Ireland squad, I'd think the main reason he pulled out of the squad was one of the fixtures was against Scotland, the country he is just after turning his back on. I know it's hard to judge, these days especially, but he doesn't seem like a bad egg, where as Stephen Ireland was always a prat (Though I wouldn't use the Granny incident as a stick to beat him with, was a complicated situation). I'd agree that the McCarthy absenteeism could have been handled a lot better but I think Trappatoni has handled the issue of all these absentees fairly poorly, it's always discussed openly with the media and he either still doesn't have the English, or the full facts, to really put across what he wants to say, it all becomes a bit messy. Needless to say I think Kenny would do it a lot differently, more in-house.
Anyway getting away from the Irish setup, from what I've seen of McCarthy on the pitch he'd be an alright squad player but I think he'd need some serious improvment to be worth a spot in the first team. He technique and vision seem pretty good but I still havn't really seen him light up a game. Plus we also have Shelvey as an up-and-coming central/attacking midfielder. Still, we've been linked with him since he was at Hamilton so I'm sure our scouts know a damn sight more than I do!

I though he was Irish, or did he turn down the Scots to play for Ireland???

Didn't he say his old ma had kicked it so he could spend time with that silly little trout he's always splashing all over the Daily OK mag paper, apparently she was a bit lonely.... Awwww
Anyways that Fábio Coentrão chap has apparently said that he'll only leave Benfica for Real Madrid, I'm not arsed about that as £20m+ is a bit much given we spent £35m on Andy Carroll.

Turned down the Scots to play for us, like McGeady. What an upgrade

To be fair, if I remember correctly, I think his girlfriend had a misscarriage, and while he handled it brutally you can understand his head not bein in the right place. Though ya could question whether he ever had a head at all.

Havta say, I'll not be disappointed if we miss out on Coentrao if he's costin that kinda money. I nearly choked when we heard we bought Johnson for £17-£18M, regardless of what we actually paid for him with Crouch nd all. We're going to be working within a transfer budget this year, no matter how much money Henry and co. have. Spending that much on a fullback would be insane. Evra only cost £5.5M and we missed out on Alves because we wouldn't pay £8M so there's better value to be had out their.
