Yes fair's fair, good wishes to Russia, they're entitled to have their turn.

No-one should be "entitled" to it. If they're going to have a bidding process it should be won by the best bid.

The fact that the Russians currently have 1 stadium and practically no infrastructure should have got them booted out in the first round.

Outraged as the tabloids and the FA delegates are, they're already talking of going to Russia to win it in 2018. Surely the only real way to hit the corrupt FIFA officials et al would be to withdraw from the 2018 World Cup in protest. The USA boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics at the height of the cold war and many medals won at those games were deemed pretty worthless and irrelevant as the world's best were not there to compete. The less corrupt (let's face it they're ALL at it to some degree) nations of Europe, ie England, Spain, France, Germany, Holland, ahem...Italy should all boycott 2018 and play out their own unofficial World Cup, inviting Brazil, Argentina and any other like-minded nations. Watch the faces of the FIFA officials and the Russian mafia drop as their Official FIFA World Corrupt is then reduced to a circus.

I think david cameron said that commercially england's bid was the best which means it would have made the most money, so if it was about money england would have got it

The money that counted was probably in suitcases or brown envelopes. Smile

With the evidence that is starting to appear, it's looks like your comments weren't far from the truth.

I bet the report that was due to come out at the end of this month into the bidding process at FIFA has only been put back so that Blatter and his cronies can squirrel away more backhanders, but surely now they have to take a long serious look at the current Ukraine situation and realise that if the situation drags on there is no way it would be safe to play the world cup in Russia in 2018. Even now I think to me now, playing away to Ukraine carries a considerable security risk

RE: England Fail To Win (Russia Win) 2018 World Cup Bid
My prediction: the report will say that everyone broke the rules to some extent; just some more than others.

It will place the blame on a bidding process that was ambiguous and rules that were not properly enforced. It will recommend changes to future bidding processes, but as no one was above reproach in the last one, it will stop short of recommending that Russia or Qatar be stripped of the world cups in 2018 or 2022.

[In fairness, whilst I am not by any means siding with FIFA gangsters, I don't think that the Sunday Times did the cause any great favours last month by trying to stir up a tornado of so-called evidence of corruption. Some of it, admittedly, was quite damning, but the really compelling bits were buried under an avalanche of holier-than-thou bullshit. 90% of what they reported was -- in my opinion -- completely irrelevant.

Platini met with the Emir of Qatar? So what!? Apart from the fact that there is no rule against that, what would you expect Platini to do? Say no? That's absurd. Beckenbauer lobbied for German companies? Good for him! Money passing between different national FA's? Money passes between FA's all the time. No doubt Qatar, because of its wealth, gets approached more than most. And I'm sure they were more generous than usual in a world cup selection year, but the values they quoted didn't suggest "bribery" to me. For a country that could spend billions if it wanted to, $50k here and there is conspicuous for being so little. It is more reminiscent of that slightly awkward kid that we all knew that would try to 'buy' his friends by a being a bit too generous and buying everyone a round at the pub.]

So we'll get a hollow and insincere 'mea culpa' from FIFA and promises to change the way that future World Cups are awarded. In doing so, there will be plenty of sly digs at the 'underhand tactics' of the British media. The situation in the Ukraine will be treated as a non-issue, because the World Cup is still 4 years away.

And then they will move on to the more important business of re-electing Sepp Blatter to another term.

A pessimistic view, I know, but how much optimism could FIFA possibly inspire?

It hasn't been put back because the report was never due to come out in the first place. It's only the judgment on the report that's due to be made public and that has always been due in August or September, after the judge handling the matter has had a chance to review the report.
