Looks like a classic case developing of the owners of a football club not remotely interested in what their fans want. But when do they ever...?
Yet from what I read, Randy Lerner was interested in Steve McClaren, but then there was a fan protest and he decided not to take the interest any further. Perhaps if the fans had known earlier that McLeish was the other option, they would have welcomed Second Choice Steve with open arms.

RE: Football Banter
Without trying to upset the claret & blue Villans, I don't see why the Villa fans seem to think they're this massive club, before you all SHOUT at my by
'Big club' I mean a club who's consistent in the league year after year & also looking to sign players at the top end of the transfer market (Talent wise).
I've always said that Villa & Tottenham are just mid table clubs who don't go either up nor down & always seem to finish mid table every year & have done since the 90's, but then Tottenham decided to splash out a bit & look what happened yet you just don't see Villa doing this even the £24m or whatever it was on Darren Bent was probably just a flash in the pan & an inwards gesture to keep people sweet, after all Randy Learner did state that if they wanted to spend this much on a player then they could but thats just it it is only one player & considering they don't have a big squad or one packed with quality & they're gonna lose Ashley Young & maybe Stewart Downing but you know they won't spend big on replacments of the same quality.
The Villa fans went crazy at the thought of Steve McClaren, probably because of his shit job he did with England well look at England now, We're still shit & we've got Fabio Capello on £6m a year & outside of the England job he's a great manager.
Now I'll never say Steve McClaren is a great manager but he did well at Middlesbrough with limited money & he won them their first ever trophy & qualified for Europe for the first time in 128 years & then went on to qualify again & reached the final aswell as the semi final of the FA Cup.
When he went to Holland to a 'small club' FC Twente he finished 2nd in his first season, got to the final of the Dutch cup & took them to the knock out stages of the UEFA Cup for the first time. In his second season he guided Twente to their first ever Dutch title & qualified for the Champions League.
Yes ok his spell in Germany didn't go well but he did lose his main goalscorer & Wolfsburg another fairly small club were just coming off the back of their most successful season for over 20 years.
So I don't see why Aston Villa fans were against the appointment of Steve McClaren as he would've done well for them given the position they're in, I don't know why Mark Hughes left Fulam but He's obviously not gonna gat the job nor now is Martin Jol or Rafa Benitez so now your left with the manager who's just got your city rivals relegated... Oh the joy, football's a funny old game!!!
