i find this suprising... its a known that if i fighter gets his off button pressed 2-3 times the 4th time wont take half as much effort. chuck liddel is a prime example he used to be able to take a good solid punch but after the first 2 times he was switched off the 3rd time he went out with a punch that barley touched him (in relative terms). i think chuck realized himself that a couple of years ago that punch wouldnt have bothered him... so called it a day and rightly so.
so although mma is way way safer than boxing the potential for long lasting damage is there.
i dare say if they left the rules as they were in the early 90's then there would be more signs of damaged fighters, but as the rules got tighter the chances of lasting harm have been reduced. i just hope they dont try to use the results to tighten the rules even further or ban the sport all together.

RE: UFC
I also think fighters like Chuck would've come to the end like he & Matt Hughes (last 3 losses by KO) did due to them not being allround MMA fighters like most are now becoming.

Ken Shamrock is another who's last 7 losses were by KO/TKO including 5 in a row, these fighters just aren't upto scratch with the moden day fighters, back in their day it was fighter against fighter mostly striker with the likes of Shamrock & Hughes having what was back then the next generation of skills especially Matt Hughes which set them apart as the next gen allround athlete but even he eventually had to make way for the new era of the super athletes like GSP & Jon Jones.

I also think in Chuck Liddel's case he probably didn't do much neck & jaw exercises to strengthen the muscles to prevent gatting KO'd this along with his lack of allround skill meant he suffered in the end.

RE: UFC
Shit I totally forgot this was on I can't be arsed to to a full post at this time in the morning as it usually takes about an hour or so with all the research so I'll have to have a blind guess at the fight predictions.

Nam Phan v Jimy Hettes - Phan Decision
Vladimir Matyushenko v Alexander Gustafsson - Gustafsson TKO
Jon Fitch v Johny Hendricks - Hendricks TKO or a no contest due to Fitch being shit!!!
Nate Diaz v Donald Cerrone - Diaz Submisson... Decision, I wanna say Cerrone decision but I can't go against my mans lil bro.
Brock Lesnar v Alistair Overeem - Overeem TKO

Ross makes his featherweight debut.
Ross Pearson v Junior Assunção - Pearson Decision

Nam Phan v Jimy Hettes
Nam will be hoping his UFC career isn't just a flash in the Phan. Big Laugh
Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks
Yup his bitch ass got put out in the festive cold in just 12 paint drying seconds!!!
Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone
This started exactly the way I expected it to given how fired up Cerrone had got but man can these Diaz 'chumps' box the shit out of people. Some fool round here best start believing before I laydown some virtual Stockton slaps!!!
Brock Lesnar v Alistair Overeem
Having been out for over a year with the stomach problems I just didn't see how Lesner thought he was gonna stop a man with these credentials.
Former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Dream Interim Heavyweight Champion, K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, and made history by being the only fighter in combat sports to hold a world title in both MMA and K-1 kickboxing at the same time. As of November 2010, Overeem is ranked as the #3 best heavyweight mixed martial artist in the world by Sherdog, #3 by MMAWeekly, #3 by Yahoo! Sports and #2 by FightMagazine.com & also a Pride legend.

Nobody wants to see a fighter get seriously hurt in the octagon or suffer any damage that will affect their life outside the sport but that said I won't be shedding any tears over Brock Lesners retirement as I never rated him as an MMA fighter in the first place. He was given his opportunity due to the aura that surrounded him from his WWE days & just didn't have the allround skills to be an MMA star at the top level as he showed against Shane Carwin he can't take much when it comes to punches & if it wasn't for Carwins lack of stamina he'd have lost that fight big. He was given every opportunity to showcase a variety of skills but never looked like he trained in anything but wrestling.

Alistair Overeem on the other hand is the real deal & I'm very much looking forward to him fighting in the UFC although I don't like it when the big name experienced fighters walk into to UFC, get a win & then fight for the title I think they should fight the 2nd & 3rd placed contenders first. I do think he'll beat Junior dos Santos though to earn himself another strange pay night.
Ross Pearson v Junior Assunção
I've not seen it but this was a good win for Ross against a decent experienced fighter who was on a 7 fight win streak & a good start to his career in the featherweight division. No doubt followed by seeing in the new year in Las Vegas, lucky bastard.

It looks like Ross has got a new contract given his $20,000 pay, he was still on TUF $8,000 for his last fight against Edson Barboza at UFC 134.

Bonus awards, Fighters were awarded $75,000 bonuses.

Fight of the Night: Nate Diaz v Donald Cerrone
Knockout of the Night: Johny Hendricks
Submission of the Night: Not awarded as no matches ended by submission.

Reported Payout, The following is the reported payout to the fighters as reported to the The Nevada State Athletic Commission. It does not include sponsor money and also does not include the UFC's traditional "fight night" bonuses.

Alistair Overeem: $385,714.28 (includes $121,428.57 win bonus) Sad def. Brock Lesnar: $400,000
Nate Diaz: $74,000 (includes $37,000 win bonus) def. Donald Cerrone: $30,000
Johny Hendricks: $52,000 (includes $26,000 win bonus) def. Jon Fitch: $60,000
Alexander Gustafsson: $32,000 (includes $16,000 win bonus) def. Vladimir Matyushenko: $40,000
Jim Hettes: $16,000 (includes $8,000 win bonus) def. Nam Phan: $8,000
Ross Pearson: $40,000 (includes $20,000 win bonus) def. Junior Assuncao: $8,000
Danny Castillo: $38,000 (includes $19,000 win bonus) def. Anthony Njokuani: $12,000
Dong Hyun Kim: $82,000 (includes $41,000 win bonus) def. Sean Pierson: $8,000
Jacob Volkmann: $32,000 (includes $16,000 win bonus) def. Efrain Escudero: $10,000
