At today’s SPL General Meeting, clubs approved changes to SPL rules on safe standing and Unacceptable Conduct.
The SPL Board will now have the ability to approve requests from clubs to pilot safe standing areas for use in Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches.
Neil Doncaster, Chief Executive of the SPL, said: “Since I joined the SPL in 2009, there has been widespread support amongst fans to re-introduce safe standing areas. I am delighted that we have been able to respond positively to supporters’ views on improving the match day experience.

Erm, there's a very good reason why it's called 'safe standing'. The Germans are the ones who've perfected safe standing, and it's about time the UK did the same.

RE: Scottish Football
Chilly you know and I know that this just wouldn't work in the UK, people would simply not stick to their own designated standing space, could you imagine a Rangers v Celtic match for instance with all the passion and er hatred between the 2 teams without all bedlam breaking out if they were all standing, for Neil Doncaster to advocate this is madness, standing again at game's is revisiting the dark days, I don't buy into this safe standing argument one bit, there is nothing safe about it whatsoever, also it's worth pointing out if you have some 7ft giant in front of you then you have next to no chance of viewing the spectacle, thanks but no thanks, what's wrong with the way it is now, as the old saying goes, if it ain't broken, why fix it
