We'll miss you Gaz (until you come back) as you are one of the better posters.

Does this mean that the post of Louise's fanboy is free. Big Grin

RE: Forum activity (or the lack of)
I think there comes a time when burn out occurs for forum members. It starts when you get bored of the Babeshows themselves then you log on in the morning and go through today's posts and realise that there are not much more than about three threads you may want to contribute to, then you get to I would imagine about 2-3000 posts then you start thinking there is more to life.

Its perfectly natural and the wonderful thing about it all is new and interesting members join who are just as excited about the whole thing as when we joined a few years back. I found this forum by accident and have been here for about two or so years. I don't think I will be here in two years from now but you never know!!

Happy retirement Gaz.

One should only quote another one's post if they have an argument to put against it or used within the correct context such as something which can perhaps be added to the point. I think I've said my peace now bladewave

I agree completely with this perspective.

The following is the part of a private message that was sent to the forum admin, shortly after Gaz contacted us to announce he was leaving.

skateguy Wrote:While I realise that someone leaving the forum, especially a senior member (or members), is never a good thing, I don't think its anything particularly out of the ordinary - although it can appear to be if that person announces that they wish to leave, rather than simply stopping or slowing their posting. I believe there's a natural cycle that will always see senior members come and go. For example in the first six months of the forum, I used to post a lot, along with Kalel, Tintin, Paul Ducky, Djm, Skully, Smc, Gaz, Aston V, Belfast Bad Boy, ShinyHelmet, Firebird, BristolRovers etc. Then a few months later members such as Josh, Tsu, Karl, Dreamlander, Shandy, Mr G, Sooky and various others appeared and began to dominate the posting. Out of these members, very few post much anymore, whether they aired their grievances and left, were banned, or simply began to stop posting or post less. But the cycle has continued regardless, with new people joining and becoming high posting senior members on a regular basis.

I think when someone announces their departure and airs their grievances with the forum/admins/mods [a common phenomenon among many on all forums], then its natural for some to believe the departure is of significance, especially when its a senior member. But I'm not sure it really is. I don't think its particularly natural or normal for anyone to keep on posting at a high rate without one day becoming bored, fed up or disaffected - eventually the good things begin to escape someone, while the annoying things grate more and more, and their perception of the forum can become distorted.

But, while some might be becoming disaffected, many other forum users are still 'at the beginning' of their forum experience. I think as one member leaves there's always a new member who begins posting and ends up becoming a significant poster.

I agree with skateguy. Never have quite understood why a member feels it necessary to tell everyone they're leaving. If they're going for good and want to bid farewell to certain members then they can do so via a PM, can't they?

I get bored of this place from time to time, and when I do I simply stop posting until I feel like coming back.

RE: Forum activity (or the lack of)
I'm not one for announcing a flounce on a forum. If I get bored I just don't post. I've also seen people announce they're leaving just for attention, then when they get some sympathy they decide to stay. I admittedly haven't seen that on this site and I'm sure that isn't the case with Gaz. But on other forums I've seen it.

Another thing with flouncing, it only really works if you decide to never come back otherwise you look like a bit of a fool. Especially if you're back posting a week later.

Flounce:
When a member of an online community announces they are leaving, usually after a protracted disagreement with other members of the community.
"I'm gone. You all enjoy your little discussions."
