RE: Megaupload
Given the large amount of legitimate use of the site to host content, and that as subscribers we paid for such service, it does seem incredulous that the US can take such action unilaterally without the involvement or agreement of other regulatory bodies.
To whom in the FBI should we be sending our claim for compensation ?
This board and many others will be hit severely, and if they're prepared to go after MU, then how do sites like FileSonic and Oron stand a chance given they seem much more obvious around piracy.
I've just lost access to over 2,500 files

RE: Megaupload
i think a more important issue is whether people here will get done for uploading/downloading content to/from there. i recommend you think before taking action now.
what pisses me off especially though is how the US seems to be blatently policing the world with this latest move. fascist bastards.

Interesting point, although there seems little to nothing we can do to either understand what may happen or indeed protect ourselves (if necessary).
MU's policy on sharing logs and who had what hosted is unclear to me, and of course I can't check now

RE: Megaupload
if thats the case, think of a site like youtube, with hundreds of millions of users on there..the site could get shut down because, say, some illegal uploads of movie clips or music songs. itll harm everyone.

RE: Megaupload
Think we need to give the dust time to settle, then see about how we go on from here...
Other hosters could be targetted, and looking through many of the more common sites, their T&C clearly state they'll share any and all information requested, even if not directly required to do so by law. So even though MU likely had similar terms, it didn't stop them being turned off and the US pissing off literally millions of people around the globe.
