If i remember right soon after he was made eligible to play for England the Italy manager but him on the bench in an international friendly the bastard Big Grin, was a massive fan of Carlo back in his Chelsea days

Speaking of eligiblity, (and no one mention Almunia!), Arteta is available to play for England Big Grin http://footballsup.com/2010/03/arteta-for-england/

Not a big fan of foriegn players playing for England personally but what a player that guy is - he would easily make the squad, if not the first team

Not a big fan of foreigners picking the England team either but needs must.... it all started with that John Barnes.....Big Grin

RE: Your England World Cup Squad!
Goalkeepers
Green, Hart, Kirkland

Defenders
Terry©, Ferdinand, A. Cole, Johnson, Upson, Lescott/Jagielka (subject to fitness), Brown

Midfielders
Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Milner, Lennon, Walcott, J. Cole, Carrick

Strikers
Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Heskey, Bent

Versatility is the name of the game in my squad Big Grin
In goal, in my opinion if Kirkland never had his injury problems he would be our no.1, and just nips in there ahead of James
In defence, Lescott/Jagileka can play CB and L/RB, Brown can play anywhere across the back, hence the lack of proper FB cover
In midfield, J. Cole and Carrick scrape in there (Beckham and Hargreaves would replace if fit). It was a tough choice between J. Cole, Young and Downing, but international experience just won it for J. Cole
Up front, Crouch to start with wotshisname, Defoe and Bent act as emergency subs when in need of a goal, and although I don’t really rate Heskey, we play better with him in the team

Starting Line Up
Green

Johnson Ferdinand Terry A. Cole

Lennon Lampard Barry Gerrard

Rooney Crouch

The squad? I reckon if we were to go down that route and not play Arteta from the start in every game he's fit for, the England manager would need slapping with a wet fish. As much as I admire both Gerrard and Lampard, Arteta is a vastly superior creative force to either of them. Both of the other two play too selfishly, Arteta plays like a man who gets as much satisfaction from creating goals as scoring them. Arteta in a five man midfield would improve England's ball retention immeasurably.

Oh yeah i definetely agree, i only said he'd get in the squad as it's a thread discussing the England world cup squad

He's just the type of player England lack, the only thing im not sure about is who do you replace for Arteta?
Barry? Gerrard/Lampard? Right Midfielder?(whoever that is) Second Striker?(whoever that is)

EDIT - Just realised you said "Arteta in a five man midfield" which pretty much answers the question Wink

RE: Your England World Cup Squad!
To be honest, I'd replace Gerrard or Lampard (either one is fine, they play an almost identical game in the midfield), play Carrick in the holding role as he's slightly better than Barry at moving the ball around, then play two out and out wide men, with Rooney up front on his own. That's why I only picked four strikers in the squad I suggested. England would be better off playing 4-5-1 than 4-1-3-2, for my money. Mind you, it's not like we struggled in qualifying, so I reckon I won't be taking Fabio's job just yet. Wink

A love the idea of Arteta in and England shirt although he would lack the English passion that is so famous. I also agree with the idea that you would have to replace Lampard or Gerrard. Being a Chelsea fan i suppose i am biased but Lampard is having yet another great season and Gerrard has been mediocre at best and has never done it for England. I know the argument would be Lampard hasn't been great for England of late but he has done it before and we know he is capable of being a great England player. would be an interesting debate though. Perhaps another football thread lmao!

i aint rude, i just dont fucking like you

HaHa Sooky Lol. Id have faith we could win the World Cup but there's one problem bloody GREEN if Fabio keeps faith in him we will be goners. Its probably to late now but Kirkland is a keeper who deserved a chance this season but constantly gets over looked. Bloody Fabio went with foster when he was playing shit for united i still stick by David James in goal for world cup
