RE: Ashes to Ashes
i thought it was great! it was pretty much heading in that direction and alot of stuff makes sense.
just realised tho that Keats/The Devil got Viv.
ended good with some great lines for Gene and just that freeze frame with Heroes playing by David Bowie
also nice touch with the Dixon of Dock Green at the end, for those that don't know, Dixon was a character in a film called The Blue Lamp, he died at the end of the film then was resurrected for a long running TV show. so it kind of plays on the same theme

RE: Ashes to Ashes
i thought it was all self explanatory!
Because Gene Hunt was brutally murdered, he created himself a reality in which he gave other officers the chance to have a second chance at life. So Gene is like a guide as it were, helping them get ready and then passing over, whereas keats is the devil or like the devil, wanting them for his 'department'
He explained that Sam/Annie went to the Pub, meaning they finally found their final resting place and crossed over. Shaz, Chris, Ray and Alex all crossed over too, so now they are dead in the real world and in Gene's world too

Yes, that's how I understood it ('purgatory for coppers' is how I've best seen it described). I enjoyed it but it could've explained things a little clearer - Was the whole world and all the other people in it purely Gene's invention? or are all the other policemen dead as well? Why didn't Alex ask Keats who he was? and was he actually the devil? who was Nelson and what was his knowledge of Gene and the world?
All a bit unclear for me really, still, given the shear awfulness of the US LOM ending this was pretty good, albeit not as clear and emotional as I thought it would be.

RE: Ashes to Ashes
to be honest, i think some of your questions are just for over thinking it. i would presume that all the coppers were other policeman, the rest are just constructs, but i think its not specified either cos they didn't think they needed to or just left it up to the viewer to decide.
thought it was basically implied that the world is Gene's invention with various dead people bringing in new info as they arrive, moving it on in time. i think that you're meant to wonder who Keats actually was, its heavily implied he's the devil with all that manic laughter at the end that was practically pure evil. nelson, in my opinion, is meant to be like St Peter, allowing access to heaven, nirvana, whatnot.
i like that it gave us the basics of what it all was, but left alot open to interpretation. there was no need for a spoonfed ending explaining every little thing, thats not what LOM or A2A was as a show.

And with Sam then, what was the connection with his last episode when he appeared to be back in normal life..... but then jumped off the building.
they moved on, they had all come to terms with their deaths. the place was for coppers that died a troubled death, like in all the 3 videos, gene's death, alex's death and sam's death. they were going into the light.
as for sam, he didn't die in the first ep, he was in a very deep coma, near death, then he came out of it, into the real world, but didn't like it, so jumped off to die and go back to the coppers purgatory.
