Romelu Lukaku now announced as a Chelsea player.

Thomas Tuchel used a very rare move in the Super Cup final - bringing on a substitute goalkeeper for the penalty shootout. The well known case of this previously was Louis van Gaal bringing on Tim Krul for a shootout between the Netherlands and Costa Rica in the 2014 World Cup, although there are at least 6 other instances of such a substitution. The earliest appears to be in 1996 by Martin O'Neill, who brought on Zeljko Kalac as a very late goalkeeper substitute for Leicester City against Crystal Palace in that year's First Division play-off final, although in that case Leicester managed to score a winning goal in the seconds remaining and the penalty shootout never took place.

I gave up on Werner, and was hoping he'd leave, but I've come to agree with you that the Lukaku signing might be the right thing for him. If this really does get Werner firing we could find ourselves with a pretty awesome attack.

Chelsea have announced that Werner & Lukaku will be unavailable for at least the next two matches.

Now we've won everything - it's such a good feeling to claim the one trophy we hadn't previously won. And what a time for Mendy, winning the African Nations Cup and the Club World Cup in the same week.

This is a football stat worth mentioning. Romelu Lukaku touched the ball just 7 times in Chelsea's match against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the fewest by anyone playing a full Premier League game since records began in 2003. In the first half he only touched the ball twice and that included the kick-off.
