Ah, but that isn't comparing like for like now is it. Safari 4 is still beta Rolleyes For that you have to compare Firefox 3.1, IE 8, and Opera 10.0 (yes I know Opera is alpha not beta but they don't have a beta build at present as the last build went live a week ago)
Personally, as I've mentioned before, I've got that many tools tied in with Firefox that it will take a bit to shift it as my main browser. The ironic thing is if you based my opinion on clean builds with no add-ons then Opera would win. Chrome I still see as pointless for myself. It's all very well having separate memory spaces for each tab but that isn't efficient. Gets to be a problem running a lot of tabs and it is very rare my tabs ever get down to single figures. One for the people who thing Google is the Internet perhaps

RE: best browser
Hmmm, just a thought. I know why I hate IE but that is because of the headaches I get from the other side and having to get it (especially IE6) to jump through hoops to fit to standards. I don't see why a normal user would hate it so much though as using it isn't all that bad. Well...?

RE: best browser
I tried these tweaks and noticed some improvement, feel free to try them but do a system restore in case you f**k up your system.

Thumbs up Firefox tweaks that will double your browser speed
Reduce the amount of RAM Firefox uses for its cache feature

1. Type “about:config” (no quotes) in the adress bar in the browser.
2. Find “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer”
3. Set it’s value to “0“;(Zero)
Increase the Speed at Which Firefox loads pages

1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit Enter.
(Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 10.
This means it will make 10 requests at once.
3. Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0“;.(Zero)
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now.
Optionally (for even faster web browsing) here are some more options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– > Interger or String
network.dns.disableIPv6: set “false”
“content.notify.backoffcount”: set “5“; (Five)
“plugin.expose_full_path”: set “true”.
“ui.submenuDelay”: set “0; (zero)
Reduce RAM usage to 10MB when Firefox is minimized:

This little hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimized:
1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimize”. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.

This has been working well for me... good luck to everyone!

Credit goes to BGR.

Question web browsers
i've been using IE7 fo a while now, i had 6 before, i had never really thought of changing

after having some problems opening some pages etc, i downloaded google chrome, just for quickness to see if that helped. it did, so i now may just get rid of IE7 and install something else.

whats the alternatives? any pros and cons would help me to decide which to choose

I molested myself last night, i tried to say no, but i knew i wanted it.

like a ninja....

RE: web browsers
I, like many others here use Firefox, here are your pros and cons:
Pros -
1) Firefox is reported to be the fastest browser when it comes to download speed. Not only do programs and files download faster, but you get a record of all your downloads in the form of a table, so you can erase or move them at your convenience.
2) Firefox has some advanced security measures that protect your computer from spyware and even certain viruses. Firefox also comes with a state-of-the-art popup blocker that stops almost 100 percent of popups.

Cons -
1) The main disadvantage of Firefox is compatibility. Some websites do not show properly in Firefox, and require you to view them with IE. This includes pages with ActiveX and VBScript, both of which are not supported by Firefox.
2) Another disadvantage of Firefox is that downloads cannot be resumed if interrupted. This may not be a big deal if you have DSL service, but those on a dial-up connection may have a lot of trouble with this. Firefox was actually designed for people using high-speed Internet, which means dial-up users can run into many problems along the way.

EDIT - WTF. I made a grammar mistake and had to edit my post, the shame!
