Venom

Saw this Tuesday morning and gotta be honest was little disappointed all tho I didn’t think it was quite as bad as the critics said to some degree I do agree with them. first of all the positive stuff the chemistry between Eddie and Venom was great and the banter between them and certain set pieces were great. The action when it did happens was great too along with the effects were good and the little Easter Eggs peppered throughout the film were good all so the humour was just right. The negatives I thought the villain was very weak, when the film first starts up they just jump in with it out fleshing things out and it felt really rushed which is how the first part of movie felt like rushed and badly edited as if things were cut out. All tho it’s supposed to be a 15 rating it didn’t look violent or a lot of gory places where it could have been gorier they either cut away or simply just don’t show you it could have easily been a 12 rating which for me was a missed a opportunity it felt like they cut the film down on purpose. The final fight scene was a bit of mess in places you could tell the cgi was or the two characters were so mixed together it was hard to tell who was who. Some characters to me felt wasted and under used, with them changing Venom origin and back story I felt the comic book version was far more interesting and engaging and it would have been nice to see his classic costume and powers again wasn’t totally there. Finally it felt like they wouldn’t nothing to do Spider-Man but yet want it be connected even tho it isn’t it’s like they can’t quite make up there minds and there’s a few plot holes and things not explained in the movie.
The two post credit scenes were great and well worth staying through the credits to watch them. Over all I didn’t think the film bad or great either.

6.4/10

The Purge (2013) on Netflix I timed watching this right by luck as the 2nd one in the sequal was on last night..

The film had been reccommeded by a friend 6/10 I thought it was good but there were a lot of bad points I could list I really don't like watching films that are too dark I know its set at night and the house had no electricity but I struggled to see what I was watching not a fan of dark films. The second thing I don't like are really different sound levels I found it hard to hear the characters talking super quiete whispering at times so turned to volume up then when action happened it was too loud.

The story was fresh compared to other films of the type it made me think what would I do during the night of purge probably just make a secret underground bunker lol

I began watching the second one last night it appeared more scary in the first 20 minutes I only watched until the car broke down on the bridge (turned over to the boxing) I thought it wouldve continued with the same family and the homeless guy that they took in but I guess I will have to wait until I see it

The Monster(2018)

A suspenseful horror written and directed by Bryan Bertino that sees an alcoholic single mother drive her daughter to her estranged ex partner in order to give him full custody, things go awry when during a storm they accidentally hit a wolf and badly damage their car leaving them stranded on a lonely back road.Things get worse when they find themselves at the mercy of a nocturnal entity that intends to kill them. The attacks from the monster are intercut with flashbacks of the mother and daughter's less than ideal life and the creature itself is a none to subtle metaphor for her addiction but it looks superb.Zoe Kazan and Ella Ballentine are both utterly convincing in the lead roles.

Star Trek Into Darkness

I actually enjoyed it more the second time around, the two things let it down was John Harrison and who really was namely Khan, Benedict Cumberbatch is fantastic actor but didn’t have the same impact as the original Khan same with what happens to Kirk they just took the events of Wrath of Khan and swapped the people around without the effectiveness of original scene. This version felt rushed where as the original carried over to the next movie so again the impact and effectiveness is missing. Got two versions of the blu ray the Sainsbury’s exclusive version and steel book which at the time I was gonna cancel but forgot am glad I didn’t lol.

7.9/10.

Halloween (1978)

John Carpenter's iconic chiller is a masterpiece in horror cinema. All the ingredients for this type of movie are there in abundance - the likeable heroine (Jamie Lee Curtis), the ghostly and indestructible killer, the psychiatrist on his trail (Donald Pleasance), a suitably gloomy location setting and the unmistakable music which almost literally has you jumping out of your skin, regardless of how many times you've seen it before. This is simply a brilliant, terror filled 90 minutes that was a pioneer in this horror genre - without Michael Myers, there would have been no Jason Vorhees or Freddy Krueger. For me this is the best of the best when it comes to scary movies. 5/5

The Doctor and the Devils(1985)

A strange Burke & Hare rip off directed by Freddie Francis based on his(poorly)revised version of a screenplay from Dylan Thomas and Thomas Hardy.Johnathan Pryce and Stephen Rea are both good as Fallon & Bloom instead of Burke & Hare, their efforts manage to keep the viewer interested as does Timothy Dalton who plays a character based on Dr.Knox, inexplicably renamed Dr.Rock.Pointless really but not a bad take on the grisly grave robbers to add to the collection.

Hunter killer 6/10 - action movie starring Gerald Butler and Gary Oldman, predicable but entertaining enough.

Diamonds Are Forever

Connerys last Bond film which went out on a very camp note especially with how the villain Mr. Wint by Actor Bruce Glover father of Back To The Future Actor Crispin Glover who played George Mcfly. Mr. Kidd and Mr. Wint were the first gay villains in the Bond history. The main theme by Shirley Bassey fantastic.

Night of the Creeps(1985)

A Fred Dekker curio that sort of blends George A.Romero and John Hughes together as a college kid fights against a race of space slugs that turn people and rather strangely, cats into lumbering zombies.Silly but good fun with decent performances from Jason Lively and Tom Atkins.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (recorded on SKY+) similar to the first one but still very good stuntwork and batty fight scenes which is Matthew Vaughan's trademark(slow-mo used copiously) and loads of blood and gore all choreographed to music backing. Elton John is in this camping it up but is very funny. A third one is mooted for November 2019 and shooting starts in January next year.
