RE: Ofcom's next target
Seems obvious that Elite TV is the now the target for the person(s) who complained like mad to Ofcom about Bang Media. You know what to expect from Ofcom, as common sense doesn't apply in their little world. So, Elite TV will have to tone it down even more (yep, it's hard to believe they can do that, especially given how tame this channel now is), or just expect even more complaints to be made about their shows. Really is a sorry state of affairs.

RE: Ofcom's next target
A few choice cuts:

"the location of the channels in the „adult‟ section of the EPG was not sufficient to justify the broadcast of the material at 00:50 or 22:00."

"The content shown at these times in these two broadcasts would in Ofcom‟s view have exceeded the likely expectation of the vast majority of the audience for adult sex chat advertising channels of this nature and location."
~ can they substantiate that?

"a viewer could reasonably have perceived the sexual acts as real."
~ get real

"In judging whether material is “within the recognised character of pornography”, and therefore is subject to this rule, broadcasters should be guided by the definitions used by the BBFC when referring to “sex-works at „18‟”."
~ Ofcom redefines Porn as Cert 18

"This guidance has been supplemented by various decisions of Ofcom through a series of published findings, and published decisions of the Content Sanctions Committee or Broadcasting Sanctions Committee that relate to „adult-sex material‟ and „material equivalent to the BBFC R18‟. By these means, Ofcom has made clear what constitutes „adult sex material‟ and R18 material, and therefore “the recognised character of pornography.""
~ So now Ofcom itself defines "the recognised character of pornography", not society as a whole.

Its quite clear that Elite rolled over and said sorry, and who can blame them when Ofcom are a vindictive bunch who increase penalties if a broadcaster mounts a defence, denies that they broke rules, or heaven forbid, appeals (to Ofcom). But nothing will change unless someone takes them down a peg.

By the way, look at the complaint further down about Bridezillas where the wrong tape was shown at 6pm on Wedding TV (aw, bless): "this programme broadcast on 12 January 2011 contained 92 instances of the word “fuck” (or a derivative) and 3 uses of the word “cunt” alone. The episode shown the previous day also contained several - but fewer - instances of the word “fuck”." Not sure what that proves, as the show as also in breech, except that there is more offensive stuff out there.

RE: Ofcom's next target
To put this into context Ofcom received 501 complaints about Frankie Boyles joke on Tramadol Nights re Katie Prices child.

Unlike Ofcom I wont repeat the childs name or quote both jokes.

Katie Price found the jokes "offensive, demeaning and humiliating". No comparisons with her former line of work please, shes a legit author.

There were 242 complaints about Dancing On Ice. They may have focussed on Jason Gardiner being a creepy poseur, I lost interest. read it yourself if unsure.

PS. Not one word in my paper, the Daily Mail or the BBC website about Ofcom finding against Elite, just plenty of coverage of the Frankie Boyle story. That tells you what the public are interested in.

RE: Ofcom's next target
Now that's I've calmed down, Elite last night was pretty much business as usual with Lori Buckby and co up their usual naked antics so well done to Elite for sticking 2 fingers up to the board of censors. Like I said in a previous thread Ofcom are currently faced with making substantial cut's so it's likely they will have less time on their hands dealing with pissy complaints from 1 or 2 narrow minded religious god fearing cretins about the babe channels. Furthermore who's to say that as time goes on Ofcom will get scaled down more and more leading down to ultimate closure with more commonsense rule's coming into force instead. This country is long overdue to right the wrongs of the current set up and with time we'll hopefully be brought kicking and screaming into line with the rest of most of the European countries and into the 21st Century.

TVX have had a lot of their girls leaving recently, they weren't on air when I checked at around noon and the discussion thread seems to suggest that TVX is a sinking ship right now. I hope it isn't because it would be another blow to the babechannels, but it seems that it could be the next victim.

TVX was about as tame as you could get for babechannels. Why would ofcom need to get them??
