Abolish The Death Penalty In The USA
Out of all of the western democracy's all have abolished the Death Penalty with the exception of the USA. The death penalty to me works in theory but then again you have to ask yourself the ethical question who are we to play God and take another life. I was allways brought up to believe that 2 wrongs don't make a right. If murder is wrong then effectively all the the states in the USA are doing is revenge killing's which is a hell of lot more cruel than the crime committed in the first instance. What's the point in rehabilitation sending a prisoner to death row for say 15 year's or so and then strapping the condemned down to a gurney table. This offender may be by this time a changed man/women so it begs the question what is even the point of rehabilitation if you are going to get executed irrespective of it at the end. Another thing is that the Death Penalty has not proved to be a deterrent as state's with it have a higher homicide rate than other's without it. Also the system is clearly flawed as for every 10 executed at least 1 is innocent so it in fact turns out to be a state murder. Here is a link to the states with and without the Death Penalty. Your thoughts please. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/states-a...th-penalty

RE: Abolish The Death Penalty In The USA
Yes I do agree with you in many ways, scum such as these 2 men should be punished but life with no parole is in many ways a much more severe punishment knowing that for the rest of your days you will be incarcerated and will never ever have your civil rights or freedom's back. I'm a firm believer in life without parole and look at the laws in our country and they are far too lenient. Under UK law you can commit murder and be out again in 10 or 15 years time. Life for me should mean life, behind bar's for the rest of your days until proven innocent irrespective of how sorry or remorseful you are. You took a life so you should pay the ultimate price but not by barbaric death sentences being handed down. If the Death Penalty in the UK still applied then we would have allready executed the Guildford 4 for example who were later found to be innocent so this would have turned into murder, yes the majority of murder's are guilty but while there is still a slim chance they could be innocent it's not worth the risk in taking. Also statistically a Death Penalty trial cost's the tax payer a lot more money than a non Death Penalty trial does.
