RE: If you ran ofcom?
Reading that just makes me want to hit him.

If I was in charge of Ofcom, I would put the emphasis on personal responsibility. Yes, I would take reasonable steps to ensure that children do not see anything they are not ready for, but as always, it should be the parents doing that. They just can't be bothered, and think the state should raise their child...well no. You don't like what your child is watching, stop them watching it.

Its called discipline.

RE: If you ran ofcom?
The bottom line as I've said before is that Ofcom simply just don't like porn and will use any reason or excuse to justify their censoring. No other country in Europe has this level of regulation and also we have more babe channels than the rest of Europe so clearly us Brit's like our late night sex channels. Sex Channels as they are should be enough to justify the content of the show's irrespective of the time or day. One positive thing to come out of this article is this is an ex member of the Ofcom board and not a present member. Ofcom could in the long term if they get the right people on the committee change the current regulations altogether and allow for what we have been asking for eventually. If you have forward thinking members on the board then all could be forgiven and they could in the future support the Adult Industry and the Babe Channels and concentrate more on consumer Issues instead of petty complaints. What this discussion has proven is that Ofcom could be run in a much more commonsense way, whether or not they change their stance only the future will know that one.

RE: If you ran ofcom?
I dug out and posted biographical details and quotes about/from her in another thread somewhere.

One problem is that she was a Content Committee member from 2001 until recently, and had hardly reached dizzy heights before that. While a regulator she may have been unable to produce shows/manage a broadcaster due to potential conflict of interest, so we are talking career regulator, not seasoned broadcasting executive.

Secondly she talks in terms of her opinions - how a broadcaster would feel using "flirtatous" lnguage to a "middleaged/elderly woman" eg her. By law the regulators are required to have due regard to generally acceptable standards, eg what the population find acceptable, rather than base decisions on their personal views.
