2012 UEFA European Championship

Just so everyone is clear, this is the draw that was made:

Poland
Greece
Russia
Czech Republic

GROUP B
Netherlands
Denmark

GROUP C
Spain
Italy
Republic of Ireland
Croatia

GROUP D
Ukraine
Sweden
France
England

As much as I want them to succeed, I just don't think they will. We're not good enough to win the title, we're not good enough to get out of the group. We can probably sneak third place in the group and then get the first plane home.

It will turn out to be the usual England ordeal/bullshit that we've become accustomed to.

The travelling long distances to get to the games will no doubt be used as the main excuse to the failure and England's reputation as the laughing stock across World football will be reinforced again.

France will beat us, and Sweden will screw us up as usual. We're shit and we know we are...

With Euro 2012 around the corner I thought I would start a discussion thread for the tournament

I have to say I'm really looking forward to it as for me the Euro tournaments have been far better than the World Cup in recent times I think its going to be a really good tournament

i love it when there's a tournament in the summer. it's been a while since the irish were involved in one and i think we'll do well.

You best hope you don't have O'Dea at the heart of your defence terence. I've heard he's in your squad? We had him last season and I don't know what you think of him but he is fuckin awful. He cost us so many points last season it was embarrassing. He can't handle Championship football never mind International. Good luck.

When O'Dea has played for Ireland, he's actually done ok, its seems to be like that for Irish players, they play better for their country than their club. The person, who worries most is if McShane fills in for O'Shea if he gets injured.

I want to say that I'll be rooting for both the English and the Irish. I have to also say though that I think England will find it very difficult to get out of their group. I think France will beat us, we never beat Sweden and it's touch and go against Ukraine. The squad Hodgson picked didn't contain enough forwards for me, and not enough back-up within the defenders, particularly at right back.

Spain are still the favourites - they still have the best players in world football as a squad. I'm really looking forward to Ireland taking on Spain on 14th June, and then see them meet old enemies Italy in the final match in group C. I still remember Ray Houghton's stunner to beat the Italians in World Cup 1994 in the USA.

I can see Ireland getting 4 maybe 6 points in our group. We will beat Croatia, lose to Spain and win or draw with Italy. I'm really worried if we get embarrassed by Spain then confidence will be low for the vital game with Italy

Despite England's squad selection, I think ye will go through with France, but will have to settle for second in that group
