It's satellite.

It competes against both Sky and Freesat:

Freesat - RD offers an additional free HD channel to Freesat (don't know what it is yet); it also offers the option to sign up to pay TV channels, which is not possible with Freesat.

Sky: RD offers pay TV channels at a lower cost than Sky. It's for customers that will be happy with a small number of premium channels for a small monthly premium.

Thank you Digital Dave. That makes it a lot clearer. It seems like it's positioned in between Sky and Freesat.

The encryption is paired with their receiver for security reasons. Only their own receivers will work.
