But not in the sweltering heat of South America .
That's where they gain the advantage , playing in , what are "hostile" climates to the average European players .
Has a European team ever won a World Cup in South America ?

Everybody says this on the basis of memories of the World Cups in Mexico (especially 1970, when England played in 100f heat), but Brazil is thousands of miles to the south, and the other side of the Equator, so it will be in the middle of their winter.

Yes, those locations in the north-east of the country will still potentially be on the hot side. 28c/82f will be the norm and 32c/90f very likely but no worse than many FA Cup Final days and in 2006 the World Cup in Germany was played in temperatures of up to 35c/95f, although Brazilian humidity will be more of a problem for Europeans.

If, however, England are based in the more southerly locations they will find it decidedly temperature and even possibly cold. BBC commentator Steve Wilson was only pointing out a few days ago that Beira-Rio frequently gets frosts at that time of year and if allocated games there he's going to be borrowing Motty's old sheepskin!

Porto Alegre will be the coolest city, Average temperature here for year is 19c and in winter sometimes have snow.

True. But Morrison has scored more goals this season than Wellbeck has in the last two. I think if Ravel carries on this form he simply has to take Wellbeck's place in the squad.

well you'll see from my past comments that im not a fan of welbeck either, but i get what you mean

just another story for the media to make money on. What really annoys me though is the anti racism in football group, they seriously annoy me, seems to be the smallest comment sets them off. It gets boring

What annoys me is the media will use any little thing they can to seemingly sap the momentum and the good feeling generated every time England achieve something good. We should as a nation, be preparing for a carnival World Cup in Brazil. We've got a golden ticket to the greatest show on Earth but I'm not feeling the enthusiasm, because of this story. Which frankly, isn't even a story.

But a wet cold night in London in mid-November will not replicate the conditions in South America .The humidity will be the key factor in Brazil .If you want to compare temperatures ?,USA in '94 is remembered for the heat 90° + in most of the games .Not the WC , but Eng v Scot ,Wembley Euro 96 was played in 90°heat .
The European teams will struggle with the climate in Brazil imo .

In the 10 qualifying matches England's opposition only managed 18 goal attempts on target (1.8 per match, the lowest conceded by any country in the European qualifying groups).

In a group like England had they should be expected to not get beat...

No team should go into a game expecting to win easily. There are no easy games in International football anymore. Alleged minnows Montenegro have a world class player in Jovetic who could have done some damage. Poland have one or two good players and one world class striker who again could have caused us problems if we had under performed. While not getting over confident I have to say England have shown much improvement recently.

I agree that England have improved the last 2 games but I would still expect a team like England to win against all the teams in your group, I'm not saying that they should be expected to win easily against every team who were in the group, i'm saying that they should have won more game than they did...
