England world cup 2014 qualifying campaign

I think that would be the last thing we need at the World Cup - get drawn against Chile in a group! I fear we will end up with Chile. Iceland and Portugal!! If that happens and based on last night's poor performance we would be wise not to underestimate Iceland either!!

That's impossible for 2 reasons.

1) There will be a maximum of 2 European teams in each group, so England, Iceland and Portugal can't all be drawn together, even if Iceland and Portugal qualify, as all 3 are European.

2) England are not seeded and so must be drawn with a seeded country, those being Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Switzerland and (although they haven't completed qualifying yet) Uruguay.

I think its clear babelover was just using those team as an example, On last nights performance England should fear any team they get in their group, you were shit last night against Chile.

Some people criticised England for their 0-0 draw in Ukraine in September, but France lost 2-0 there on Friday and now have a big task in the second leg of their play off to qualify for the World Cup.

Yeah I can't see France making it now. They might win the second leg but I've just got a feeling Ukraine will either score or restrict them to just a one goal win.

As for England - I can plausibly see a group of death against Brazil, Ivory Coast and Netherlands. I'm obviously not putting our chances in Brazil particularly high...

France only got through last time because of that Thierry Henri handball, so let's hope Ukraine can finish the job.

Not relly as there are a lot of teams you could face that are comparable to those, not everybody is pedantic like you are being..

I think Friday's game showed why we won't win the World Cup. Even if we got a "group of death", barring some calamitous bad luck or refereeing decisions I could still see us getting through to the knockout stage but that's when the problems will start.

As soon as we come up against any team with a bit of pace and flair we will be totally undone. We seem to have no answer to them and will be relying on a "solid performance" (ie dour) to scrape through.

Last 16 or last 8 is likely, last 4 not impossible if we get a break with the draw and learn how to take penalties but I fear that in 8 months time we'll be here (yet again!) sighing over might what have been.

Fortunately that draw's impossible. If England draw Ivory Coast or any other African country, the only European sides they can face in the group stage are Spain, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland. Similarly, if England draw the Netherlands they can't also be drawn with the Ivory Coast or any other African country.
