RE: Spammers
The spamming problem seems to happen during the early morning when the forum is low on mod cover.

Could they be googling 'noticeboard' when they're looking for sites to post on? Maybe changing the name of the section would help.

Just a thought.

A common and effective way to deal with spammers is to confine newbies to a particular section for a period immediately after signing up. It acts as a filter, let them post away there, rather than litter the entire forum, those posts can easily be ignored by other members until the mods clean them up and kill the spam accounts.
That may be why these posts appear mainly in that section Smile

I said a few days ago all that needs to be done is for new members to require Admin / Moderator approval before they can post. Approval takes as long as necessary depending on the number of applications and genuine members will be happy to wait a day or 2.

RE: Spammers
Are we sure it's merely an individual or individuals with nothing to do and/or a grudge against the forum? Most of the posts I see talk about various products or medicines, usually containing active links to [more likely] ad-streams or [possibly] viruses. Doesn't that sound more like corporate spamming rather than a disgruntled person with too much free time on their hands? That said, I've never clicked on the links to find out - nor would I advise it.

RE: Spammers
Looking at the membership list from a few weeks back what puzzles me is the large number of people who open accounts and never sign back in. Some stay online for 5-10 minutes, some less than a minute. Many have account names that seem computer generated but they dont even post. What do they get out of it?
