Rick Falkvinge, Swedish MEP, doesn't agree with you. He says we need to take this threat seriously.

"This horrendous attack on our fundamental freedoms of speech and expression needs action now. This isn't the final vote in the legislative process; rather, it's the first vote in the legislative sausage machine ('what goes in, must come out'). Still, it is important to send a very clear message that this is unacceptable at first opportunity, or it will become a legislative proposal which is much harder to fight."

Like insurance salesmen, it is easier to stop something at the start. If you cant say NO at the first hurdle the second wont be any easier.

Iceland has banned all printed porn and also banned strip clubs.

The UK government under section 27 of the Policing and Crime Act 2009 already gives power to Local Authorities to adopt a position of banning strip clubs in their area under the governments 'Big Society' drive so not much difference to Iceland.

With regard to todays vote 625 members of the European Parliament voted 368-159 in favour of passing a report aimed at stamping out gender stereotypes in the region.

The section regarding a "ban on all forms of pornography in the media," was removed from the report prior to the vote although this has not been completely put to bed and can be raised again in the future.

Here's a quick report on the issue.

First of all, welcome back Gold Plated Pension!

Secondly, I agree with those who say that this whole move is a crock of shit. Pornography/erotica has been part of human existence since we lived in caves.

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entert...84569.html

It's part of who and what we are as human beings. Trying to ban it is as ridiculous as making unmarried females wear chastity belts. There will always be those who seek to deny human sexuality and they will always fail.

Digital Daves comments made me think of a stone age Mary Whitehouse wearing stone age old lady glasses trying to stop cave dwellers shagging round the campfire en masse to keep the cold out. "I dont like it. You have to stop" (expressed in grunts).

The EU website is hardly friendly but the provisional text of the montion as actually voted on can be found here page 309 on. (Dont be surprised if the link stops working when replaced with the final version.)

Key points are a lot of background (whereas and having regard to) particularly references to the
Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (adopted by the Fourth World Conference on Women on 15/09/1995), EU Parliament resolutions of 18/05/2000, followed up 10/03/2005 (+10) and 25/02/2010 (+15).

The action it calls for is listed on pages 313 to 320 in no fewer than 63 paragraphs including the extracts below. Remember, this is the watered down version, but as that references previous declarations it would be difficult but not impossible to include actions proposed in those documents. There is agreat deal of "worthy" social engineering like encouraging women to train as engineers or including boys in gender equality lessons. Here are some - watered down - quotes:

Quote:6. Calls on the Commission and the Member States to develop strategies that attack the root causes of discrimination and violence against women, which are entrenched in stereotypes and inequalities between women and men, beginning with the deconstruction of gender stereotypes;

9. Stresses that advertising often conveys discriminatory and/or undignified messages based on all forms of gender stereotyping, which hinder gender equality strategies; calls on the Commission, the Member States, civil society and advertising self-regulatory bodies to cooperate closely in order to combat such practices, notably by using effective tools which guarantee respect for human dignity and probity in marketing and advertising;

12. Calls on the EU to develop awareness campaigns on zero-tolerance across the EU for sexist insults or degrading images of women and girls in the media;

14. Stresses the importance of promoting the representation of the female image in a way that respects women’s dignity, and of combating persistent gender stereotypes, in particular the prevalence of degrading images, whilst fully respecting freedom of expression and freedom of the press;

62. Calls on the EU and its Member States to develop safeguards (in the form of ombudspersons or media-watch authorities incorporating gender equality experts) in order to ensure that industrial codes of conduct include a gender equality perspective and are adhered to, and that the public can lodge complaints if necessary;

Texts Adopted
Draft 12 Dec 2012

"Original Text Wrote:17. Calls on the EU and its Member States to take concrete action on its resolution of 16 September 1997 on discrimination against women in advertising, which called for a ban on all forms of pornography in the media and on the advertising of sex tourism(10);

18. Calls on the EU to conduct research into the links between child pornography and adult pornography and the impacts on girls, women, boys and men, as well as the relationship between pornography and sexual violence;

19. Calls on the Member States to establish independent regulation bodies with the aim of controlling the media and advertising industry and a mandate to impose effective sanctions on companies and individuals promoting the sexualisation of girls;

RE: Adult channels to be outlawed
In the sustained (and pretty terrible) economic climate I think the junket that is the European parliament will eventually become massively watered down. A few countries are even toying with the ideas of balloting their electorates on leaving it all together. Think about the above thread when you vote too...

These MEP fuckers have absolutely nothing better to do than sit on their asses all day talking about shit, begging for more of your money, and generally fucking up your life!

Incidentally, an "EU wide ban" on just about anything (that has been is general massive legal consumption for decades) would be unworkable, let alone on porn, of which the EU is a huge exporter and even bigger consumer.

Most of all, can you imagine how hard this "EU wide ban" would be to reconcile with all the alleged 'freedoms of the citizen' bullshit the EU are so keen to promote. This shit would run for decades. And here's the key to this matter. Its just another 'agenda item' for the MEP cunts to kick around (and keep their asses employed at £150k+ a year). I can see through this shit like its water...

I say well done to all those across Europe who emailed the European Parliament on this issue, even if they were treated like spammers in the end. If these things aren't opposed there is always a danger of them sneaking through, despite people saying it would never happen or it wouldn't be workable.

All these words that are being written about this subject. When all anyone wants, is to catch a glimpse, just every now and then of our favourite models Pussie from under her flimsy panties. Must admit saying it like that does sound a bit pervy. I'll shut up.

maybe if the channels all got taken off the air it would be a good thing then half the girls would end up going into porn and put every body out of their misery as you could see them on the internet, personally i think all the channels are past it and just more boring more than anything, hardly ever watch now unless there is nothing else on or I cant get to sleep....

How could they go into porn if porn was banned?

I was thinking that, and many do porn anyway, so getting rid of the channels would make no difference.
