wouldn't surprise me if they go in for Herrera again in january

Its not about who Man United have signed that has determined whether their transfer window was good or bad, but the way they conducted their business was pure amateur for a club the size of Man United.

Did alright eh? Ed Woodward gave a press interview in July in which he claimed that Man Utd were in the market for world class footballers. The same day David Moyes said that he wanted at least 2 top level central midfielders, a left back and an attacking player. The rumour mill went into overdrive, Bale, Ronaldo, Alcantara, Fabregas, De Rossi, Baines. When these names were put to Moyes he didn't deny interest in any of them. Man Utd then proceeded to make bids that were way below market value, €30m for Fabregas, £28m for Fellaini and Baines, some derisory figure for De Rossi, plus a late bid for Bale who had zero interest in signing for them. End result? At least 2 top level central midfielders, a left back and an attacking player? Fabregas? Alcantara? No, just Fellaini who cost £27.5m, compared to Man Utd's original bid of £28m for Fellaini AND Baines. Given that their initial bid for Baines was £12m, they must have valued Fellaini at £16m, but ended up paying £27.5m, despite Moyes knowing full well that there was a buyout clause valid until the end of July of £23.5m.

Did alright eh?

Fellaini world class?

Are Newcastle following the same strategy as last season?

Last year they failed to strengthen in the summer and by Christmas had slid into the bottom 6, so went and splashed some cash on several signings in January to avoid relegation.

Same again this time?

seems like alot of people are blaming woodward for this transfer window fuckup. amazing though how they tried to get baines and fellaini for 28 million and ended up just getting fellaini for 27.5 mill. maybe fergie knew something when gill was leaving that things would go tits up at the top of the club. still interested in this herrrera business and what actually happened cos so many different rumours but people think man utd have used him, so would like to hear what herrera has to say!

RE: Transfers in summer window 2013
Woodward declared when he took over the role of chief executive that he would be observant with the club's funds and not pay over the odds for players. Hopefully he has now learned that you have to pay what the going rate is. United had £70 million plus available as transfer money but seemed reluctant to spend it.
Fellaini is a decent player but not the world class midfielder we were promised. He is also not the creative, passer that we really need. I'm quite happy he signed as he will bang in a few goals but we needed someone like Ozil.
All this said I think there have been a lot of tactical decisions made to delay and scupper transfers this summer by a number of clubs.
Failed to bring in Khedira, Herrera, Fabregas and Baines. All in all its made the United board look amateurish and incompetent and makes me wonder if playing under Moyes has the same lure as playing under Fergie.

it does seem funny that man utd are suddenly getting all this stick now when the whole summer it was arsenal who was getting stick for not buying anyone big, now of course they have got someone big so people and the media have to find someone else to give stick too, fair enough utd only bought two players and left it really late but there is nothing wrong with them signing fellani, no one had a problem at the time when fergie signed bebe, djemba djemba, kleberson, liam millier etc they weren't man utd class, felliani is one of the best midfielders in the prem even though they paid over the odds for him, just cos he didn't play for barca, madrid, or juve don't mean he isn't, suarez is world class but he only plays for liverpool a team who came 7th last season

RE: Transfers in summer window 2013
The worst thing to me is that two players utd tried to sign (Thiago & Herrera) had buyout clauses, which sounds easy enough, there is the figure, pay it and he's yours. But they failed to do both deals and being that they are both at Spanish clubs it also makes you wonder if there is some kind of lack of knowledge/understanding of Spanish tax laws at utd right now. To avoid 21% tax on the deal the PLAYER must pay the release clause in one payment. If the club does it then they will be billed tax, both deals had reports that utd were concerned about the tax they were required to pay. If they did things correctly they wouldn't have any to worry about, but....

Who knows if those '3 stooges' yesterday at the LFP were utd reps or actually imposters but still two deals, with straight buyout clauses, they failed to do. It's easier to just pay a buyout clause than negotiate day after day with the opposite club, isn't it? Lol. The Thiago deal took forever, just to pay a buyout clause! Something not right.

Perhaps Woodward was reluctant to spend too much money? Perhaps he thought utd won the league by 11 points and they don't need much anyway? Who knows. He did say something similar here though back in May:

that's what they were just rumours, bale and ronaldo were never gonna go to utd, they tried to get fabregas but he wanted to stay at barca, di rossi wanted to stay at roma, and how is Thiago a top a level player what has he done for barca? he is just another overrated kid

they made a mistake by choosing not to sign ozil, mata would have been a great signing but would chelsea sell to them i doubt it,

so what other world class players should they have gone after? if people think they should have signed someone from a top club, lets not forget they are only about three or four world class teams in the world? barca, madrid, juve, bayern munich, and i doubt any of their star player would want to leave those clubs, ozil only went to arsenal cos madrid stupidly didn't want him, who else could they have signed? ramos, benzema, ronaldo, casillas, iniesta, fabregas, messi? those are world class players and none of those would have gone to man utd either

man utd sign players and make them world class, signing already world class players is rare? most signings are just good or very good players at first then you make them into stars
